The escort cosworth that cost me £450
well thought i would share you the story..
believe it or not around xmas time 2002 it was brought to my attention from someone that there was an esc cossie which and appeared to of been parked up for a very long time,so i went hunted it down and had alook for myself.
well there she was mallard green all parked up didnt think alot of it till had alook at the tax disc and noticed it had run out in may 2000
wtf i was thinking it just didnt make sense so i got into action and thought i was gonna do something about this called dvla asked them there advice about what i thought was an abandoned car and how do i claim it well they told me what i needed to hear did the relevent things and sent of a V62 (i think that was it) dvla said to me that once thay had recieved my form requesting the log book they would try and get hold of the current owner if he doesnt respond to there request they will issue the log book in my name
the wait began.........................then early jan 03 guess what arrives thro the post!!!!
the log book for the cossie in ma name well i couldnt believe it
so went to see if car was still there and yep there it was,now the problem was how was i gonna move the thing with out keys etc becausce the car was parked with the wheels pointing to the kerb and had a massive s/wheel look on it
I came back to the car next day after sorting out a way of lifting it etc and guess fucking what..................ITS GONE the fooking cossis gone
well cut a story short etc i just got on with things and thought well was worth a try then about 3 weeks later i get the police at my door one night asking if i own a esc cosworth reg number etc etc.well from what they told me it appeared the car had been involved in an accident and been left in some blokes front garden.well cut a story short managed to convince the police i had nothing to do with it and tracked the car down to a pound and since im the registered keeper now i was gonna see what sort of damage was done and if anything could be salvaged.
i walked into the pound and right at the back was the cossie and as you can see from the pics below it wasnt as bad as i was 1st fearing. To get it home all i had to do was pay the impound fee which came to just under £400 and then pay a mate £50 to get if on a flatbed
well its some story really and even i and ppl i know cant believe it all but had i moved the car the day i got the log book how the story would of been different and wouldnt of cost me £450
when i got it as you can see it had morrets, konis, drilled discs, poly bushes, stainless exhaust and 52k on the clock

thats unbelievable, i cant see how the DVLA can give you the car either, its nothing to do with them.
they can make you the registered keeper but they cant make you the registered owner surely???
its someone elses property DVLA just do car tax and shit they have no authority to give away others property?!?!?
also find it strange the car was abandoned for what 4 years?? and in that time no one tried to nick it or rung the police to say it was abandoned?
then x amount of years later it got nicked and still drove??
i do believe you mate but its certainly not easy!

at the time i came across it dvla gave me advice on what to do they advised me to go to the police to see if it had been reported stolen etc
i went to them and they told me it hadnt been so i did all the right things anyway if it has no tax it shouldnt be parked on a public road.
i have had no come back on this car at all not even the previous owner who looks like dissappeared of the face of the earth
when the car had dissaperaed after i got log book i even got in contact with the council to see if it been towed away due to parked on road with no tax -but no it hadnt was reported to them 5 times tho so surprised it wasnt towed away earlier

An interesting story!
Does seem strange, what did happen to the previous owner...dead, in nick, on the run...!?!
But surely somebody in the area were the car was parked would have known something about the car unless it broke down there.
Can't believe the council, police and local chavs did not have ago at the car either!
At the end of the day no one would loose an Escort Cossie and no one would not notice it abandoned for so long. There must be some serious reasons behind it all.
My conclusion is that the story is still to end when whoever decides they want their car back!!

Ah i suppose,
Dunno, just trying to see it from the another point of view. Dunno there is a lot of right and wrongs to this If the car was sat in the same place abonded for 4 years seems strange Maybe it was knicked before and left there, the previous owners caimed of insurance etc and has just been forgotten about?

It does indeed seem strange.. However as has been said, if the car is left on the public highway with no tax the DVLA can take it and cube it if they like, luckily you showed interest before they did!
It is weird though how you showed interest then it got nicked after all that time, although stranger things have happened..
Nicely done though, i'll buy it off you for £500? you've made £50 profit? what'd ya say?!

Friend of mine did the same with a Cav. It's perfectly legal and I admire anyone who goes thorugh the correct process and gets themselves a good deal.
The current owner has every oppotunity to stop the transfer as they are contacted by the DVLA about it.

So where was it parked up when it was first brought to your attention, a public highway? If it was'nt on a road that was covered by road tax then surely the land owner would have had some rights?
Just trying to clarify things and how the law stands, all seems a bit of a grey area to me.
