Default Chassis number

after having to replace the rear drivers side footwell in my car due to rot im now faced with the fact that i know longer have a chassis number i still have the number that i took out and also took photos wit it in before being chopped out and photos of the new floor going in!!!! but wot im wondering is how do i get a floor number back in without doing it the dodgy way?? can i get in touch with the DVLA? maybe they can stamp i? any help would be really appreicated.....

just re-stamp the floor, you are only replacing what you removed, you have proof with your pics, you will not be doing anything wrong, its only if you stamp a different number that it is deemed illegal

if thats true ( im not sure ) then fine i could do this but is it not possible for the DVLA to do it then its done right???

I don't think you can buy that one - the star isn't part of the VIN, it is a security stamp to show authenticity and to stop extra characters being added at the start or end of the VIN.

Why not ask the DVLA where you stand on this???

Yes be careful,speak to the dvla and possibly the police to get the proper info, don't want chop the floor out then be told you needed to get it inspected before ypu had!!!

They may look on it as a ringer if they dont see the original floor in the shell!!!

bit late for that as the old floor is lying in my garage.... it needed to come out before it fell out wot was i supposed to do its my daily runner i need the car on the road and it was the only time i had to get it done...

think i best go to the DVLA and get a bit of info

I would love to know the correct answer to this awell. I phoned DVLA and they wouldn't offer any advise and forward me on to VOSA who told me that I can just remove the panel and have the new panel stamped at a garage.. just seems to easy don't it!!
I'm going to take plenty of photographic evidence and keep the old panel.
It has been suggested that I take the replacement panel before its fitted to an engraver for a better finish???
Let me know what you decide to do!

well i took the panelout at the weekend anyway but took loads of photos ill contact the DVLA see wot they have to say...
