Tremec is the fit and forget option but I'm sure I herd it's the older type box that rod runs or the one mark used which are the ones to go for. Is there not an issue with the newer ones changing gear at high rpm? Sure someone had an issue I've a big tooth in mine but once mine is back on the road I'll be looking to up grade at some point. It's torque that brakes things

Have you considered opting for a better box like a Tremec TKO?

heard the same thing about the tremec boxes don't like shifting at high rpm.

I'm thinking tremec that rod has is that not a tremec tko?
I don't know the numbers or the codes I know rods is different to the one mark had in his RS500 I believe.
Sure the older versions are the 3550 or the 500 but not entirely sure long time since I asked lol gearbox is a long way down my list at the moment lol

You can make them shift way better with the shift finger modification and carbon fiber syncro rings. The shift finger mod is easy to do. The problem being the complicated 3 rail design which the finger sits in between. The sliding motion between the rails make the finger jam from 2nd to 3. and 3. to 4th.

You should also use GM syncromesh part no: 12345349 on the tko's. This will help with high rpm shifting.

Another option is to send your gears to liberty and get them faceplated & cryo-treated for about $800. You still need the shift finger mod though, but that is included in the price I stated.
