Default Puma fuel gauge

Had my Puma for under a week, love the beast aside from running out of fuel twice as the fuel gauge is faulty. It reads full when it's empty and the more I put in the lower the gauge reads. It'd be nice if it worked really so is it easy to fix the issue? I'm gonna guess it's a common one for Puma's (mines a 1999 1.7i 16v) Cheers

Pumas are cracking cars. The first think i would be checking is the tank sending unit.

As Glenn says, most likely the tank sender unit I reckon.

It has the wrong sender unit for the type of instrument panel.

The puma comes with 2 possible types on instrument panel; digital odometer and analogue odometer.

The sender is specific to the type of instrument panel you have. If you mix the 2, you have a fuel gauge that reads backwards.

Scuse my ignorance but how do I know which is which? Instrument panel and sender unit...
