It all depends on what you are looking for! Are you looking for a boring economical daily driver or are you looking for something a bit fun to brighten up your commute. All makes a massive difference before we can give you any proper suggestions imo

There's always one bell end
Every car has the potential to be a money pit if it's not looked after
I got an x5 for 3k that's been looked after serviced regular and drives great that's why I recommend it!

If it's just fun you want then could do a lot worse than a little 197 clio sport - if the driving position suits you that is.

There's always another bell end too who thinks just because they got lucky then every one will.

By the way, if as your post suggests, you 'just' got it, then how do you know its going to be any good/reliable/not a money? It may give you a Ł5k bill in 3 months time (and in my experience of x5's that's not unlikely for a Ł3k shitter )

Why don't you do a poll to see how many members think a Ł3k 150+k mile X5 would be a safe punt?

Seems to be most X5's/Range Rovers/Cayennes/Merc MLs are unreliable money pits, suppose they're only fashionable until they're 3 years old then get traded in so don't have to last long lol.

tourer or saloon, cracking cars, go forever, plenty of poke, probably need a few suspension bushes etc but you'll comfortably find a nice one and do the work for 3k

If I had ÂŁ3k for a daily driver and it didn't have to do family duties or anything apart from take me to work and back I'd get a nice modified van. Always handy to have if u ever need to move or pick something up. Seen some nice connects and Astras going around. Would love another escort van

Best advice so far imo.

Stacks and stacks of cars for under 500 quid. put the rest of your money into somthing you really want. Finish a project off or maybe a holiday ? At the end of the day its only an hours round trip a day which you will probably sit behind a stream of half wits doing 43mph in a 50 limit ( sorry its turning into a mini rant ) but you get the idea.

Might be a bit of out your price range, but I have recently got a mk7 fiesta zs for the daily grind. Bluetooth, air con, dab radio, ÂŁ20 a year tax etc and 55mpg all day long no matter how hard you rag it.

Maybe you could get a good mk6 for that money?

If I wanted a bit of fun thrown in I'd go for a Clio 182 or 197 else a mk2 focus would be my choice to eat up the miles without too much fuss.

you could buy a 20 year old V12 bmw for that, and thats a much better choice than an X5!

You really wouldn't want to touch a X5!

My boss had one for 4 years which he had since it was 3 months old and you wouldnt believe the amount of trouble he had with it. It was always back at the Bimmer dealer having something done under warranty.

When the 3 year warranty expired, he paid Ł1k for an additional years warranty!!!

Considering that was on a new X5, imagine the amount of trouble one for Ł3k or less would be!!!?

If you only cared about reliability then it has to be Jap, year in year out they always top the reliability table. Unfortunately though they are not the prettiest of cars lol.

if its just purely a commuting car I wouldn't be spending as much as Ł3G on one. something subŁ1G would do the job but I suppose its all relative depending on how well off you are!

a bloke at my work just had the engine replaced on his x3 3.0L, it was expensive. They do go wrong and fairly often. I would just buy something new as you can that's a 2.0L diesel, doesn't really matter what make etc.

I bought a passat 130 tdi on 04 plate 3 years ago. It's on 215k miles now, does 50mpg on a run. I've stuck new bilstein dampers on and eibach springs. Best 2k car I've ever owned and won't be replaced until it goes pop.
