As above, i have a new Golf R at the min as a company car, its shit, hate every part of it, 300bhp feels like 200, even the speakers make a engine noise because the engine is not loud enough for the looks. havent drove any of my cossie engine cars for a while but i do drive my 320bhp mk1 focus Rs which is so nicer to drive.

I think the old loom and T34 combined with the L8 management on generic chip was not a wonderful combination...it never seemed to run the same each time you drove it.

It had an ahmed chip before on T34 and it used to boost ok but due to the std gearing it was as if you had to wait for the boost to build again in each gear, now I swap cogs and it is pretty much at proper boost through each gear without anytime to drop off, more like a normally apsirated car. It was just a bit more On / Off before. It is also pretty fast now just using 3500 revs and changing up each time but that is probably because it is making the same power and torque at 3500 as it used to at max power on the previous set up.

The only problem now is that if you change up over 5000 rpm and go through 3 gears like that you are going at pretty insane speeds.

You can also drive along at say 70 in top and move the throttle and you just hear the whistle of the turbo and the speedo move instantly...it is like the turbo is chomping at the bit or like a dog pulling on the lead.

I had that with a comp brake pedal box for the 205...there was no way it would physically go together and work without me having to fabricate a few bits, cut down bolts and weld up an adapter....it was like they had not ever tried to put one together on the actual car. There were also no instructions and quite a few variations on how you might use the master cylinders...it didnt even tell you which one to use for front and which for rear etc...

I don't hate it, but I've just taken mine for a drive and feel exhausted afterwards. It's so noisy and hot in there! I think I need another car, nice and standard, for days like today. An RS1600i maybe.

I don't hate mine, but have strongly disliked it at times. It has been a journey and it's still fighting me now on some areas. The car has evolved rather than been built first time. I would have saved loads of time, effort and money if I'd have built it to even where it is now, first time around.

And still, I'm thinking about re-mounting the engine again (correctly IMO - mk1 FRS in puma) which has a knock on effect to other stuff!

But when I go past something new and person driving it feels like it's he fasting thing on. The planet, all that effort suddenly becomes worth it. Or when someone randomly comes up to you in a car park and starts asking questions and talking cars. You don't get that with modern stuff - everyone can out everything they need to know just by looking at the car and/or the badges.

the cosworth powered bmw e30 estate I built was a much more practical user friendly car than the cosworth celica I built previously but I didn't go ott with that. everything other than the alloy wheels being painted black was kept standard visually including the full leather interior. it was just the engine , running gear, suspension and brakes that got changed. that was more fun because of the standard looks no one expected the turn of speed it had from the stage 3 engine and would leave most behind when booted. id often have randoms coming up to me in car parks and petrol stations because of the 'powered by cosworth' sticker on the back window .

Aww I see I thought it would of be a t3, I can imagine a t34 feeling laggy at that power level mate.

smudger068, looks like a nice conversion and something different. Nissan technology in a Mini must be good.

MUZ. You have built a beast, but NOT for the road, it belongs on the track and no doubt it is really good fun. Keep it for track use only and if you can afford it as you have said get a more civilised car for everyday use.

Love that S2. I think race cars that are used on the road need aircon.

I hate the 3dr im driving at the minute and wish i just built my project as at least that way you dont have to fix other peoples bodges.

Built the saph with a YB but it was a lag monster and the engine started to rattle ever so slightly and then it just got pushed in the garage 4 years ago now

When I lived in Adelaide, South Australia I had a tuned 1600e Cortina and a modified 3.0 V6 Capri, neither had air -con and in the Summer there it is a nightmare! There are a few 3 doors and Saffs out there and with leather especially they would be so hot and sticky it would take the pleasure out of driving them!
Some Saff owners here are lucky enough to have air-con which must be great.
Think it was only an option on the later 4x4s not 2wds?

Yeah when I was looking to buy a Cossie the other two I was looking at were white k reg 4x4s and they both had air con. Not sure how good the air con would be on them and if any of it ever went wrong I could imagine it being a nightmare to get the parts. I bet it got seriously hot in oz mate

I have a Golf R as a daily and like it for most of the reasons you don't seem to like it lol. The speaker thing is shite and I would never have one as an enthusiasts car but, as a daily, it's great. Quiet and easy to live with but has more than enough minerals when required.

No, but many times I have saved and saved and saved and then bought my then-dream-car only to find I am bored of it a week later, it is worth Ł3k less, I have all the hassle of selling it and having people come round to test drive it and buy another one off ebay... I kind of stopped buying cars lately. I bought an a3 tdi for 3 months stop gap this was 1 and a half years ago, the selling it puts me off, private value Ł6500 but dealing with idiots or WBAC value Ł3k.

Don't worry, it's not my daily. I just don't see the point of having a track only car, I like driving it on the road round my way as it's very rural.
I've got a Golf GT TDI for the family duties. Absolutely worlds apart.

Thanks guys

It is:

5 Speed Gearbox
Allspeed Frame
Rose Jointed Arms
Straight through custom homemade centre exhaust
Fusion Fabrications Inlet
Diahatsu Sirion Alternator
4 Core Rad with electric Fan
Wiring is really simple just power it up and it runs.

The engine and gearbox is a lot lighter than an old A-series from the factory the engine produces 80hp... God knows what it is now.. and if it goes pop i just put another one in...

1275 'S' was 75bhp standard. We were fitting Shorrock Superchargers to these back in the mid/late 60's. 100bhp from these was big Power back then .
The pic below is a google one but similar.

Proper old school engineering.
Yes it was big power when you think a 70's 2 litre cortina was 98bhp at best and twice the weight.
