Default How mad have people gone with the MK3 Focus ST?

After the discussion on Ford Fair and people moaning about Foci, I was thinking about what people have done with the latest Focus ST.

I haven't seen any with much more than 300bhp so far. Has anyone gone much further than that? I wonder if the Fiesta ST has stolen its thunder a bit as they are really popular. I drove a Focus a few months ago and thought it seemed like a pretty capable car, it just lacked a bit of character from the engine. It felt a bit too quiet and linear.

Are there any madder Focus STs out there yet?

Yeah the Fiesta seems very good, but I've not seen any particularly modified Focus STs yet.

The latest facelift has a much nicer interior than the older version and the Fiesta for that matter. I thought with the 2.0 turbo lump, people would be getting decent power out of the Focus by now.

i agree that he 8 inch syc 2 screen is very nice, but there's still a bit too much grey plastic on show for my liking.

i like the TFT in the dash though and its a very nice drive

Agreed, it is a bit grey, but the revised dash that doesn't have so many buttons is a lot better. Looks less like a cheap Casio watch

They do drive nicely but I think the engine feels a bit flat as standard. Manufacturers are all so obsessed with eliminating turbo lag that it's taken away a bit of the excitement that turbocharged cars used to have. It's a pretty quick car but never really feels it. Could say the same about all its rivals really though!

I agree. I know modern more controlled turbos are probably much quicker on the road, but I personally love the bonkers hedgehunting smash of power that you get from an older small engine big turbo car when it hits boost. It's just more fun!

Bet the engine block limits decent power, I seen the 2.3 ecoboost RS block on the Jamsport display and I was the shittiest looking block I've ever seen. There's open deck then there's plain old floating liners lol

Don't know the extent of the modifications but, from what I can gather, the 2.0 EcoBoost is based on the older Duratec lump. Rallycross teams are finding over 600bhp in those so it obviously has some potential!

I have a Mk3 Focus estate. mods are a K&N filter, just the normal one not a 57i or what ever and and I have blanked off the recirc dv, and removed the symposer shite.
had an indicated 150mph out of it Monday night on the way back from the airport lol.

thought about a remap but only gets 30bhp, there is a chap in the projects section fitting a 2.0l st lump in an elise, he is hoping for 550bhp I think, 2.3 crank and rods, uprated pistons and a bigger turbo.

mine, I am in the middle of detailing it at the mo but other than that I expect it will stay as it is lol
