Default 21yr old fined £365 for doing 154 in a SEAT Leon

Not sure what's the most shocking point in the story in the press today;

that 21yr olds can afford 150mph+ cars,
the fact that he was stupid enough to drive that fast,
the very low fine (and 56 day ban)
or that a £27k SEAT Leon Cupra can reach such speeds

Should have had a two year ban and the car confiscated in my opinion. If you drive uninsured and are caught you lose your car so why not for extreme dangerous driving?

Just because he was speeding doesn't necessarily mean he was driving dangerously? It could have been an empty dual carriageway late at night etc with nobody else around, it's irresponsible possibly but not necessarily dangerous especially if the car is capable of achieving that speed from manufacture

[QUOTE=Vacuman;6690119 If you drive uninsured and are caught you lose your car so why not for extreme dangerous driving?[/QUOTE]

They can confiscate the car if uninsured but they give it back when you pay the fine, recovery and storage costs, they are only crushed if you don't pay, it isnt that they just take it and crush it.

But I do agree that he got off lightly...lucky boy.

Most reasonably high performance modern cars of 200bhp plus will do 150mph eventually, especially if 6 speed. Skoda Vrs, Audi TT, Golf Gti etc...

He did get off quite lightly, but saying that, there are worse crimes.

thats good going! less of a fine than i got for 105.

still gives us all hope tgat they are getting more lenient with speeders. would have thought that would have been jail time a few years ago?

154?? Really? If that was me I would have been expecting a 5yr ban and jailed for dangerous atleast aswell as a resit so that's just a joke as far as I'm concerned

My 1st car was a poop brown Austin allegro to be fair I was only 13 and it was a project and 1st car on the road was a beige metro. Quickest I've gone was 150 in an m5 on a private road and even in that it felt bloody quick so in a Leon that's just dangerous if you ask me

I would get 97 years & shot at dawn for my PB on the road. Powerful cars can do that Speed in the quarter or down a Motorway slip road before they get on the Motorway. 10secs later on the Motorway is 200mph with 850bhp. Of course ive never driven my car so I cant have done such a thing.

He got a smaller fine than I did for 128 the lucky sod.

I was told, but might be bollocks, that if you have a clean licence a 56 day ban is as bad as it can get for a straight up speeding offence without aggravating circumstances

the magestrates guidence for sentencing only goes upto 140mph, but is still discretionary, fine is also discretionary and often income dependant up to a maximum of £2.5k

I don't think that's quite right as I'm sure my solicitor advised I was outside Magistrates guidance with my 128.

Seat Leon Cupra's are 290bhp standard now. A £599 remap from Revo takes them to 350bhp! Mental.

on my way home home from the airport Monday night at 1am on a pretty much traffic free motorway my mk3 focus st may or maynot have brushed an indicated 150mph.

it all depends on the circumstances at the time. if its clear or traffic, weather is good etc then its not dangerous. yes things can go wrong even in a straight line but not all of us are boring bastards that are too scared to get out of bed in the morning that think about stuff like that

a lot of cars will hit 150mph+ and some are old and cheap like a £3k merc 55AMG

his leon was probably on finance
