If the Police and DVLA are happy with it, then go for it by all means. But get anything in writing

The escort cosworth was a derivative of the general escort range and as such would have had the same type approval number, therefore as long as the current shell was new then it could be used to reshell any model in that range.

Now we all know very little from a GTi would fit an escos shell given how unique it is, so where have all those parts come from, that would be the concern.

Its a grey area, but as long as it can be proven the parts are not stolen via receipts etc then the police would have no interest in the car, why would they.

DVLA would not have any interest as long as it legally registered, it would pass the ID check that used to be carried out for CAT C cars as well.

VOSA or whatever they are called these days may, just may show an interest if they pulled the car for any reason, but again the risk is very low.

The simple fact is its way too much money for a car with a story that will never go away.

Other thing that's got me thinking is it has a flap petrol filler. Rather than just the one you put your key in to.

TBH I reckon it would break for over 18, it has a tuned yb, all the transmission must be worth a few quid, suspensions uprated as are the brakes, its got a cage and carbon roof, easily 18k in bits I reckon!

What a great reply I'm sure the op will appreciate it, yeah the police would struggle to prove it was stolen it would just arouse suspicion.

The onus is on you to provide evidence it is legit. You can't

It won't break for anywhere near 18k sadly

Phone the dvla and ask them. tell them the truth that someone has collected random parts, got a shell, built it up. then got an ID from from a different spec of vehicle and stuck it on it. Im sure they will be fine with that

Unless it's murder or something like that the police are useless, they wouldn't go into the depths needed to bring it to light.

Maybe it's lack of explanation from the owner plus the fact cossies are dodgy as fuck that arouses suspicion.

Question is would it be your 17k?
