Default Stack ST 3312 boost gauge working in reverse?

Evening all, i sold a Stack boost gauge on ebay last month and the chap that bought it has just fitted it and its not working correctly.

He says it doesnt sweep when its powered up and the vac reads as boost and the boost as vac.

Now it was working perfectly when i last used it so its baffled me.

He says he has taken a live from the ecu, and there are only 3 wires to connect, live, ground and illumination. There is a sub harness to a map sensor that is already connected so you cant get that wrong.

Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers

Speak to the stack tech help, they are really helpful.
Below is the manual for it plus the contact, look at point 8 on the manual, I think the contact might be breaking when cranking so it is probably the 12v supply that needs to be changed.

Are these the ones that need a permanent live even whilst the engine is cranking? Saw someone years ago had to take power feed from the windows!

Yes it needs an uninterrupted live. I told the chap this and asked where he is getting the 12v from his reply was the ecu.

On my sierra i had a switch that would supply 12v and then various fuses and wired to whatever, im my mpreza that i used it on i used a multimeter to find a live on the back of the cluster that didnt drop on cranking.

He is saying tho that it doesnt even sweep to callibrate the zero, which is odd.

Been emailing again just now. He is going to speak to the tech guys at stack tomorrow as he is adamant its wired correctly.
I said to take a live direct off the battery to test it so not sure if he has.

Had an email from the guy today saying:

Right just spoke to peter at stack and he has said its more than likely the gauge that's had it, he said if I send him the gauge and the sensor he will test it for me free of charge just have to pay the return postage and obviously the post there. I don't no what to do as I'm 99% sure it's fitted correctly and should work, I don't really want to be spend money on it as its only another Ł70 for a brand new one and if it's turns out this ones had it I'll need to buy a new one anyway. What do you want to do? Have the gauge back and refund me or take a chance and send it to stack for testing? You cannot buy just the gauge or the sensor on its own so if need to buy the whole kit of either the gauge or the sensor is faulty. Upto you mate what you want to do.

No, how do i know he hasnt fucked it by somehow wiring it wrong?

It worked fine the last time i used it but i cant imagine it just breaking from being sat in the garage...

I do electronics repair so can have a look, just not sure if i should as i dont know what he has done to it...

I guess all they will do is put 12v on it. If they wont repair it or it costs say Ł50 he wont pay it as assuming i refund him the Ł100 a new one is Ł170.

But as ive lost out on the postage and ebay fees i made approx Ł75 from it so i wont be refunding the full Ł100 either.
I think ill give stack a ring myself tomorrow and see exactly what they do and go from there.

I have repaired a stack gauge myself before so it might be doable.

Also just checked the ebay ad, it ended on the 22nd and i posted it the following monday, received tuesday.
And the ad says no returns. So where would i stand with ebay on that?
As i refund the guy, i doubt ebay and paypal will give me their cut back and ill still be down the postage.

Argh, should have fucking kept it!

You might be in the right but I think you need to do right by the buyer, I expect stack would do a little more than put 12v on it. No, they won't give you their cut back.

I recently did a deal and a part had some damage that I wasn't aware of, I just bought a brand new item for Ł300 and replaced it, yes I am down but the deal was done and I thought it was as new but it wasn't.

Well ill call stack tomorrow and see what they will do. I have repaired stack things before and the processors can usually be had from RS for about 50p.

I had a Stack 3310 Oil Temp gauge go on me and Stack admitted fault and replaced it no problems after I sent it back.

Should probably contact them about my fuel level gauge which has a fucking mind of its own, as well!

It sucks but if he has paid by PayPal your no returns means shit. If he opens a case with eBay they WILL find in his favour and give him your money.

I would just get it back and give him his money while you have some control over the job.

If you refund it through PayPal they will give you there cut back.

You will still be down on the postage and eBay fees .

The gauge is about 8 years old but only been used for literally a couple of hundred miles.
So well out of warranty. But hardly used which is a pisser.

I might see if he will send it back to stack and see whats what, then get them to send to me unless its a reasonable cost to repair.

Ok, i called stack today and spoke to Pete, the same chap as matey spoke to yesterday.
He basically said they will power it up and test it with a calibrated pressure tester.

If it was faulty they wont repair it due to its age.

So i emailed matey to tell him to send it to me, i will test it and go from there.

Had a reply just now saying his electrician mate has just been round, it was a bad earth and it now works as it should!

If he had done as i said and tested it off the battery all this shite would have been avoided lol.

Job done
