Default Mondeo 2.2 TDCI poor MPG.

Hello can anybody help Ive just bought a Mondeo 2.2 TDCI Titanium X, 56 plate 2007, with 130,000 miles on clock. I had on of these a few years ago and I liked so I bought another because of there great MPG. When driving back on the motorway doing a steady 70 mph I was only getting 44 MPG. I had a look at this forum and cleaned the EGR which wasnt that bad and the MAF both made no difference. So I had it serviced they change fuel filter, oil filter and full oil change, and said air filter was fine. He also plugged in the computer and no faults while there he recoded the injectors. Still no difference with the MPG about 34 mpg round town and 44 mpg on a long run. This is poor.

What's the cat like? Is it free flowing?
First thing I did with mine is remove the cat and bin the egr valve. I get average 52mpg.
Most other mondeos I've seen have around 45mpg on the trip computers

Thanks for the reply, the cat seems to be fine but how would you know if it wasn't. I could change the egr I'll see about a new one tomorrow. I been up and down the motor way today and done 568 miles with 97 miles left in tank that was a full tank so I'm thinking the computer might not be working right. Can they have issues with computers.

Have you checked all the boost hoses as sometimes they split and leak cold air?

Altogether there are about 4 or 5 check round the intercooler are they standard hoses or are they silicone if there is a split in a hose the turbo won't be feeding the engine cold air like its suppose to

My old 54 plate st tdci averaged 44 mpg after getting new injectors, filter, service etc.
I thought that was good, what figure are you expecting?
To compare I did the same journey every day to work, used to car share with a guy who had a 2.0 58 plate mondeo hatch, smaller wheels, newer shape, his did 50mpg on the same 50 mile journey and same load (3 people).

Hello, I had a 2.2 TDCI a few years ago and got at least 57-60 MPG on the motorway and about 44 MPG around town. I bought another one of these for the MPG but I'm not getting anywhere near. I don't mind spending a bit of money to sort the problem out nothing has helped so far.
