Default Had a cracking start to me racing season 5 wins! update on my season 31/5/16

I started my racing season on Bank holiday monday at Oulton park and I came away with 2 class wins, 2 split grid race wins (2 seperate races in one effectively) and I'm Now joint top of the overall championship!
the day didn't start well when my team mate smashed his car to bits during a very wet qualifying after hiting some oil/fuel
The first race started in again very wet conditions and I had a very average first lap but held it togther leading my class and the treaded tyre split race group, this was until I came up to a backmarker up clay hill went to pass him and he never saw me and turned in, I tried to avoid him with no luck, he hit my osf sending him across the front of me and into the armco, he then bounced back into the traffic chasing me this brought out the red flag..

After being checked out in the medical centre he was fine thankfully

so I finished 6th overall first in class and 1st in split grid group

Footage of the race and the crash is at the end

Race 2
The Track had dried but this caught some out who were still on wets, I had a cracking race with a bmw M3 in my class and a caterham R400 on wets and eventually got him with a lap to go then nearly binned it a corner later, the best save i've ever done!
I finished 5th overall 1st in class and 1st in split grid group

Next stop Croft later this month

Steve

Well done Steve! Like reading your race reports and updates.
Croft is my favourite circuit as it was my local track.
Good luck for the rest of the season.

Love it in 2nd video just after 15 mins and you took the Caterham through the right and peddling well and getting it really crossed up. Great save. Could have lost the place but I bet the guy shat himself and backed off lol.

Race 2 was very intense, the m3 after I passed him when he went wide was on my bumper for the rest of the race

I have a Vauxhall Vectra challenge car, decided to get it out after several years in the garage!!! I used to race in the now defunct LMA Euro Saloons, and latter CNC Heads with success. You may know a guy called Gary Neville who had one in your championship in 2014. He bought that car off me a year earlier. And, Yes I may not get in but have entered nonetheless. Oulton is local to me so would be good fun.

You need to turn spot meter on. We had the same issue where the inside of the car was clear but the windows were too bright to see out of. the spot meter sorts this out.
With spot meter off, the auto exposure is based on the average of the whole scene. With spot meter on, the auto exposure is based on where you point the spot (center).

Sounded like you said prick after that crash lol

How come the gearbox goes all quiet in top gear? Is it helical?

Awesome driving getting past that caterham at the end.
It seemed like the downshift unsettled the back end at druids, I think you were normally only dropping 1 gear but that time you dropped 2.

That will be when it's in direct drive or 1:1 either 4th or in short ratio box 5th.

One turn of engine equals one turn of prop, or input and output shafts turn at the same speed so whilst shafts are locked, they are not using any ratio gears hence no whine of straight cut gears.

Cheers mate, my mate told me about the spot meter but I didn't really know what he was on about I will check it out

thanks mate, just watched it back I was taking 3rd into druids on my previous laps but on that lap I went from 5th to 4th then straight to 3rd that's what unsettled the rear, it was just a bit quick on the downshift!

As for the gearbox its as cossie-dave says its a straight cut short ratio dog box so in 5th gear its straight through so you don't get the whine as its just the main shaft being driven

steve

ok quick update on how the season is going
round 3 and 4 were at Croft and I qualified 12 on a split grid of 39 cars, fortunately for me as we lined up on the grid it started to rain and with most of the cars ahead of me on slicks things were looking good!
went from 12th to 2nd in 4 corners!
first lap video below

A safety car brought some confusion and by the time it pulled in the track had dried, which wasn't good with lots of monster class A1 cars behind me! ended up finishing 6th overall and 1st in class and 1st in split grid group
Race 2
got an ok start and just didn't have the pace to match an M3 in my class, had settled for 2nd in class when with 2 laps to go my car cut out, it wouldn't rev and would only tick over, limped it back to the pits to retire and as I entered the pits it fired up again! set back off and made it to the finish but well down the order 4th in class and 26th overall,

Round 5 and 6 were at Cadwell park, a great track not a good for me usually as I struggle to wrestle it round the tighter parts of the track.
qualified 13th and got an awesome start to be 4th at the first corner!
let some of the faster cars back through so as I wasn't slowing myself down being defensive, towards the end of the race I was at the front of a long train of about 7 cars!

Brought it home 7th overall and 1st in class and 1st in split grid group
video from a car behind me.

Race 2 got an average start as I was boxed in, was running 2nd in class with 3 cars pushing me when on the penultimate lap I got a misfire, which let the 3 cars passed finished 11th overall 2nd in class and 4th in split grid group grid group

I'm currently lying 3rd in the overall championship and 1st in class
The Next rounds are this bank holiday Monday at Oulton Park supporting the British GT championship

Raced at oulton park on bank holiday Monday supporting the British GT championship, finished race 1 9th overall and 1st in class and 1st in split grid group
Race 2 finished 7th overall and 1st in class 1st in split grid group
so essentially 2 more race wins and maximum points for the weekend

I'm currently leading Class B1 and 3rd in the overall championship

Bit of a mid season break now not back out until 23rd July at Croft
