Default main and big end bearings.

Hi Gents

Need to source main and big ends bearing all at standard size.

What are people using. I've been told to use cosworth brand only but looking on burtons they don't have standard size.

Cheers Si

vandervell are now part of mahle, i'm not sure that they make cossie bearings any longer? ACL are also out of the picture in std size usually, as they went bust last year and everyone is running out of stock.

King have entered the 'race bearing' market these days, i imagine they would be fine as i've never really heard of problems with their bearings. your other choice would be Glyco, but i'm not 100% sure that they make lead-copper cossie bearings now? certainly worth a look though.

Cosworth branded bearings were made by Vandvell which is now part of Mahle.
Mahle are relocatating their factory and are no making bearings so I am told for several months
ACL closed down in 2012/2013 now back up and running.
King are now available in a lead copper race specification, some engine builders do not like them, but you are not spoilt for choice.

I've used King in a few non Cossie engines, not a damn thing wrong with them. They're very good quality

I'd never even heard of them til a few years ago Dave Baker ( Pumaracing ) on Pistonheads mentioned them, he's used them for years. And if anyone knows his posts and knowledge, he'd be one fussy bastard.

ACL and all the others, cant really fault them either.

all of the bearings mentioned above would be fine imo
if an engine spins a bearing or whatever , 99% of the time its something else that's caused the bearing to fail, lack of oil, pump failure etc

Nothing on their web page or facebook page would indicate they are no longer trading.

Was it not a couple of years ago they had stopped then re-started ?

Engine Parts UK seem to be listed as main importers for both King and ACL

If it's same place I emailed a few years ago about King bearings for my LS...the prices they quoted me were insane.
I got them for a fraction of the price from the US...and the US had them in stock.

http://www.enginepartsuk.net/

Local place Powermax can usually get either of them too and I know they work at some Cossies, give them a call.

The oil barrier between them is the same to stop them grenading. I think you will find jg also run them.

ACL are back up and running they were at the Auto Sports Show in 2015.
The UK importer switched to King as an alternative as ACL had been in administration for nearly two years hilst they were looking for a buyer, then they ceased trading/production, then eventually restarted.
The UK imported sorted out most of the European stock, which bearings were needed for what engines.
Many companies have ACL listed but do not have any stock or have old stock.
Male Motorsport are available for the YB in most sizes including standard, they have always been more money.
You should not be moaning about paying an extra £80-£100 for better specification bearings for an engine build which will cost several thousands of pounds.
I have had communication back from Mahle explaining that their Motor Sport range of bearings is available and production of their general grange of bearing should be back in production within the next two months.
