new family car
Splashed out on a 15 month old mondeo today for a new family car. Will hopefully keep it about 10 years. Took a chance and bought a 1.6 petrol ecoboost. I'd never driven one but there was no way I was buying a diesel. So far I'm impressed, plenty of torque and power. It will pull from 1000rpm in 6th,and so far is averaging 38mpg.

Nice looking car... What put you off the diesel? I need to get another car, was thinking of a new mondeo, but not big enough in the back for three little ones, so stumped at what to get.

There's easily room in the back for three kids seats mate. Too much to go wrong with a modern diesel and I don't do the miles to justify one. My commute is only 3 miles each way.

Very nice car that mate. Well done for buying the petrol, diesel these days a complete waste of time buying for short journeys and town use what with all the dpf and egr problems everyone's experiencing. Diesel seems only viable for people commuting long distances and motorway driving etc

I wouldn't be surprised with all this new engine and turbo technology that diesels will go back to
Powering large vehicles such as lorrys, agricultural equipment and trains etc and no longer be in cars. Basicly doing a full 360 from when it started

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
Very nice, interior looks great on the new mondeos and the right engine choice, modern petrols are a far better bet without any of the issues stated above.

Ł14500 mate. Has 12000 miles on the clock. Was Ł24000 15 months ago. That's good going rich. Has it had any flywheels, clutches, egr valves or injectors?

Yes it's a 1.8. It's alright, not the fastest thing in the world but just right for my 60 mile a day commute. Yes both belts were done, was quite an expensive job but as the interval is 125k it works out cheaper than saw your equivalent VW, which would be every 40k, so would have been on its 4th belt.

We had these engines in the tranny connects at work and in 7 years of working there we changed 2 engines 1 was because the post man selected 1st instead of 3rd and shot a con rod through the block. Gods honest truth he drove it to our garage and it was still running.
The other engine cracked a liner cause the coolant pipe split causing loss of coolantand the engine got too hot.

how do you find rear and side vision?
My dad has the estate version, and i find the vision when looking over your shoulder either side , the worst ive ever come across, my pickup was better!
still they go alright for a tiny turbo'd lump in a big car

Yeah the pillars are quite big. But it's got blind spot notification built into the mirrors. So if anything is there it puts a light on in the mirror glass.
Cheers Simon. It's all good so far, fantastic car.

Lovely motors mate, only issue buying nearly new Mondeo's is depreciation, a brick depreciates less than a Mondeo, but if your planning on keeping it 10 years, I'm sure that wasn't high on your list of priorities

Looks a tidy car.Love a good Mondeo
We're on our 4th one now,11 plate titanium x sport that runs on the devils juice
Couldn't justify the extra cash on a BMW or Audi of the same age,as long as depreciation isn't a problem the big Ford's a bargain IMO.

My commute is only 3 miles each way so diesel wasn't really an option . Plus I hate the bloody things with a passion.
It will be worth next to nought in 10 years anyway fiddy so I'm not to bothered about depreciation. Might actually have to put some petrol in it soon. Done 300 miles on half a tank.

My other cars are way worse. Lol. My xr4x4 does about 27mpg on a run,and our lasses focus rs does about the same. Can't get 300 miles out of a full tank in either if them.

Remap done and dusted. The traction control doesn't like it.lol. flashes on in 1st and 2nd gear now where as before it never even flashed in in 1st. Seems to hang back occasionally still? Don't know if the traction control is not fully off even when I've turned it off,or its detecting knock and backing it off as I'm on normal unleaded untill this tank of fuel runs out.
It's going in for digital tv/DVD players in the headrests on Monday. And there's a k&n filter on the way for it.
That's it then. Hopefully just routine maintenance then for the next 10 years.
