Poor MPG Mondeo help.
Firstly, I think this is in the correct section, if not please could Mods move it to the section it belongs in, thank you.
I have a 2002 MK3 Mondeo 2.5 V6 Duratec Automatic.
67K from new. I have gave her a service the other week when I got her which included plugs, air filter, oil, oil filter and throttle body cleaned.
I am getting an average of 19.5 MPG.....This is the same as my old Volvo T5 which was running nearly 300BHP...... Any ideas why the poor fuel economy, I drive like a granny these days so cant understand?

So they are known to be rather juicy then! Lovely car to drive, would like to try an ST220 once my Physio is completed and I can go back to a manual. I have been using a 2001 Passat TDI estate manual for work for the past year so now having a 2.5 24v V6 petrol auto is a bit of a shock economy wise.....Although the sound of the V6 engine is addictive as is how smooth the engine and car is.

i have an st200 estate and round town i see average of 28mpg on the trip computer and a little over 34mpg on the motorway, so i'd say there was defo something not quite right.
Also how hard do you drive it as they are thirsty when driven hard?
cheers Matthew

Lovely car, drives so well, comfortable and has almost every creature comfort.....But she likes her fuel

If you look into a 220 when your fighting fit again, And you plan on keeping it a while then look into buying or converting one to run on LPG. I recently got Claire a gas converted MG ZT-T 190 for getting the dogs about, were paying 49.9p a litre at the minute, yes there is a slight drop in performance, but no change to the noise.

Thanks Dave, I think I will do that. I wonder how much it would cost to convert an ST220 to run on LPG?
Clarkson gave the MK3 ST220 a fantastic review.
Performance wise they are 150MPH cars for not much money these days. The Vectra C GSI is meant to be a very fast car and able to do 160MPH but meant to handle like cr@p.

The ZT's conversion was 1500 in 2005 (02 reg). Its done 113k miles now so more than paid for its self. Slight discount on tax too with ours.
(we have had it 7 weeks and only put 30 quid in petrol in it so far. Its usually on lpg within a couple of miles)

My ST220 averages about 30MPG being driven normally, 19.5 seems piss poor tbh but I dont really know how much of a negative effect it'll make being an auto

Good cars, I dont use it as an everyday car though, Infact its only done about 6000 miles in the 6 years i've owned it. I cant see it costs any more to maintain than any smaller cars. Get a pre 2006 as the road tax nearly doubles after that. The first thing I noticed is how it pulls like a train up to what ever speed you'll need to go. Only thing I would change is the flaky finish on the wheels to some decent paint.
