Default buying a motor

as in buying a general run of the mill car not something specialised

is it about where you are looking or about who you know?

i don't want to do a mike brewer and spend 5 weeks on the phone to some clown in america, nor do i have that sort of budget, so where do you look for a nice motor that ticks all the boxes?

Dojj its about getting on Auto Trader picking a car then going to view it. Its not complicated 1000's are sold every day & ive bought 60 odd in my time & not once did I ring Mike Brewer or travel to Texas for my run of the mill car. If its not specialised & run of the mill it will be a FORD so that makes things easier.

As Rod says it's about viewing the likely candidates on the autotrader and going to see them, set a price limit and hold your nerve, the right car will turn up, there's always another if the one you're looking at isn't quite right! I've just bought a cracking 3 series after searching g for a couple of weeks

I've find the auto trader route before, everything was listed as mint yet getting there and looking saw that it was a dog
The cars got better as the prices crept up but they were always 500 miles away

The one car that was local and I wanted the guy never called me back about and when I tried calling the phone was switched off so after a week I gave up

Gumtree was just as bad

I've seen afew on Facebook which were promising but we're sold by the time I enquired

Eventually went to the auction in a "let's see what's out there" gamble and bought a one owner full history car for Ł3k less than my budget

But will I be so lucky the next time?

As for eBay, they all wanted cash money so like hell was I going to go to some dinghy little estate with Ł5k my pocket

Local paper, supermarket notice boards, preloved, small local car dealers are often not as overly priced as you think and worth a look.
