Bloke is looking to spend money on a decent 2wd saph that's "standard"
What should his budget be?
£10k? £12k? £14k? More? He's not expecting concours cars but still a decent motor, are they still with "more" than the 4wd versions?

There's a few standard looking ones on eBay for £15k although they've been there a while.

I wouldn't part with mine for less than 11k in the current climate.

Not standard but not all that highly modified,32k on it now, need to use it less

No idea what they're actually selling for as those £15k ones have been up for ages.

It has been a while since I've seen a cheap(ish) one up for sale that doesn't look like it would need a chunk of cash spending on it so if I was looking now I'd personally budget £10k to get something nice.

I'd not take the eBay ones as an example lol there clearly not selling. Has to be anywhere from 6 - 12 depending on condition you may get the odd super clean one that dose more but it don't mean there all worth that

Every saph I messaged about a few weeks ago on eBay and pistonheads, car and classic had sold,I asked about everything from a eBay final bid of 5300 for a total hound to a 80k 2wd for £14'000 and everything in between,2wd and 4x4 and all had sold,so I'd say the going rate is what somewhere close to what the seller asks as it seems to be a sellers market just now,for 2wd anyway.

Is 1 of them the 127'000 mile white 2wd with the saggy bumper?
Didn't waste my time emailing about that 1 ha ha
And the other I'm sure has been on for years,no exaggeration.its hot rusty arches and is filthy inside.
Didn't see that 1 when I was looking and I wouldn't have enquirer about that 1 either, the 1 I did message about that was 14k was nice, rust free and original,I wouldn't pay that for such high miles but I was gauging the market and since the dealer who had it said it was sold that gave me the nod to buy the 1 I did buy in the end.

There is also a black one on eBay for £7295 that is a little rough around the edges but might be worth spending a few grand on to make nice?

When I worked at ford 15 years ago a lad got one for around £2300-2700. It was a "88" F plate that was a Cat D and had 17 previous owners and was a bit Smokey on over run. Ive just checked to see if I was still taxed etc and its taxed till October and mot till 2016!

How times change I had £3k 8 years ago to buy a useable one as a project ended up with mine for £2300, miners were £5-6k then. My mate paid £6k a few months after I bought mine for a 50k car with rs500 engine probably worth double that now!
It's good to see the prices have risen at last finding a good one these days is the hard part.

I've seen this one too, had a similar thought to you, looks ok, like you say, needs a bit of tidying, but 10k all in (buying+ tidying) reckon you could have a very nice car?

Your telling me! I remember (wasn't that long ago) you could look on pistonheads and there would be like 60 of them on there! And pretty much all were under 20k (except for RS500s which were like 25k). Its changed a lot in very short space of time.

I had a mk2 Escort in a field years ago long before I could drive on the road legally.I got it for nothing, now that 2 door rust free shell would be worth a fortune. At the time it was an old car that nobody wanted, much like a Sapphire Cosworth was a few years ago, times have changed, prices have changed.

I'm not saying they're all worth big money but the good ones seem to changing hands for quite a lot now, thus pushing the price of the shite up too

I looked at getting a cossie (as I have periodically throughout my adult life) around 5 years ago but couldn't justify spending £3-4k on what I thought was going to be an old, probably rusty, probably unreliable ford so I got an e36 EmmFree instead for the same money. Didn't get on with the Beemer though... The cosworth was pretty undesirable back then, it had kind of hit a slump that I'm seeing with my other car right now (a classic Impreza). The last few are doing the council estate run and look fooking awful but, and it is a big but, there are a few nice ones left (I put my Impreza in that category) and they will go up in value as everyone realises there are not many decent ones left.
