New cars are boring lol and hard to work on yourself with out the right equipment of something go's wrong. Rs turbos are cool and going up in valve. S2's look spot on with rondels on them

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
rs turbo's cossies ect are all the same thing. a 20 year old performance car is not going to be a nice car to drive on a daily basis. but as a weekend car that can do a bit of track work or a steady drive out for the day, there spot on if built right. i came close to buying an m3 recently and it dawned on me that its just a very good fast car that does everything well. but maybe a little too well to be classed as a fun weekend car. i ended up with an old skyline and my mate who drives a 530d thinks im crackers for not going for a bmw as nice as a 530d is, they dont have the kudos of a big turbo performance car, nor the sound ect ect. i suppose some people dont understand the concept of a weekend car. as far as the ebay turbo's go, the idea makes me shudder. i think a 300-350hp zetec power rst could become a fairly decent car to drive with a good mapper and the correct turbo, once handling and brakes are adressed. esp with the frs box

There not that bad, Quite a few of us using them in the vw 1.8t world.
They tend to be quite well balanced, What is a known fact is the internally wastegated versions need porting to prevent boost creap. There is loads of meat on the housings so plenty of room for porting.
Just finished a gt28 build on a mk4 Golf using a known spec and ebay Gt2871 turbo. These are producing around 360-370bhp on the 1.8t lump and are proving very reliable.

the problem is as soon as anyone sees a failure there instantly branded as cheap crap and bad news spreads fast, I have seen first hand garrets fail for no apparent reason so im damn sure plenty of others will have to but they never get mentioned, makes me laugh tbh lol

We run the Ebay turbo's anywhere from 28psi to 30psi and they hold up fine,
They do need porting and we do upgrade the actuators. Apart from that they are great.

My mate had a Chinese quad with a Honda type copy engine in it. To be fair the whole bloody thing broke after 3500 miles lol but the only thing that lasted was the engine, although from new the engine used to vibrate something rotten when revved, even from new it used to rattle the whole quad lol

Mat that Golf is running 370bhp with similar torque,
Ajamesc, the rods have proved very well over the years, not cheap shit at all. In fact its well known that other brands use the same rods but have them bushed in the states so they can be advertised as a American product.
They have been used in everything from 300bhp to well over 500bhp. No issues at all.

Anyone had an engine failure related to a blown turbo? I think that would be a decider, thing is you need a lot more boost in a cossie so may not last as long as a car with higher compression and less boost.
