Default Focus Zetec s problems

Hi my 2009 Ford Focus Zetec s 1.8 petrol has a misfire problem and also seems to lack power in higher gears. When accelerating on a motorway it seems very sluggish and often is like a kangaroo in the way car jumps under acceleration. Had recent service including correct plugs. Car done 61,000 miles

Any ideas on fault? Took it to garage twice and both times been fine for them and no recorded codes

thanks for any help

not sure on these newer models but coil packs and leads are quite fragile on the older Zetec engines.. Not that expensive to replace as a test or find a friend and swap the coil packs over.. 20 min job to rule it out..

Are you using supermarket fuel ? If so try it on a couple of tanks of a branded fuel.

Yes try a genuine coil pack and leads, as said common failure. You can get cheap aftermarket ones but they are known to be shite.

Hi thanks for help, I have tried branded fuel and didn't notice any difference.

The garage did suggest renew coil packs and leads but they said it might not mKe a difference. I think I will get them fitted and see. Thanks

Default Focus Zetec s problems

Did you change the plugs as well? Worn plugs will give a higher resistance, thus making the coil pack work harder.
