Default first one in a while

I havn't been to a ford fair since they stopped using Charlbury Park, your right it does seem to taken on a different path, I needed to have a good rummage through the trade as I'm getting back into me Ford's, but that stereo stand was a fucking nightmare, I felt so sorry for the other traders around it. I swear my eyes and ears were bleading, don't get me wrong I like to rev up the volume for a bit of AC/DC, but that was a joke, no consideration. I think I'm getting too old!!!

I did get disappointed by the numerous new Fiestas that were vw scene clones, the constant revving did my tree in as well, i had a look around the cars on your stand, good turn out and nice motors, i enjoyed the show as a whole but I think that's partly because of the good mates who I went with and was on stand with we peed about all day, the trade has dwindled off over the past few years for older stuff, i went for polybushes for my 3 door and some new braided brake pipes, only ended up with the bushes which they had run out of but charged me less and gave free delivery so I can't really moan about that.

Despite the fact that there was actually more trade, and more auto jumble than last year? Totally agree about the inconsiderate stereo idiot though!! Something has to be done about him otherwise there will be no trade next year.

The entrance numbers were up too - so the show was bigger than ever - so if you had a bad day you're in the minority I'm afraid, and the shows can't just sit still to please the 'old boys' they have to move with the times.

The club cars are an indication of what's popular, and what people are doing with their cars - so your 'beef' is actually with the Ford scene as a whole, not with Ford Fair.

I had nothing to do with the organisation this year (as I no longer work on the mag) but went along to give Jamie a hand for the weekend. I thought it was awesome - the track action was brilliant, and in among the sea of similar looking STs were many many fantastic cars.

LOL Having more numbers doesnt make a better show it just makes a better profit .The trade was poor as in the fact many traders were not carrying massive stock so alot of the stuff needed to be sent out after .Dont get me wrong I neet up with loads of people through the day and thatswhat made the day really

Yeah, fair point - what I meant is that the ever increasing numbers must mean that the show isn't getting worse, as you suggested. I guess any events always lose people who move away from whatever 'scene' it is, only to (hopefully) be replaced by people new to the scene.

So it's completely fair that from your perspective that it wasn't a good show – but for the vast majority, myself included, it was a fantastic event.

Dan I was just moaning at the way the ford scene is goiing it used to stand on its own but seriously its no different to any other scene now Im not blaming fordfair or the fact its like a bright orange and green cattle market as it is about the money for the organisers and thats what keeps them going but more number dont make a entertaining show

Ok perspective 9 tenths of the ford/rs scene was about performance now its about stance and stickers so we have gone from a bunch of power hungry knuckle draggers to a bunch of chavvy sheep lol and I love the st and the mk2 rs but ffsk lol

I think you're taking it out of context a little. All scenes evolve - they have to otherwise they simply die out. The slammed/stretched element makes up a very small percentage of the total number, and I bet there was less than 50-100 such cars at Ford Fair. Personally I think it's great to see people doing something a little differnet, rather than just rehashing the same old mods over and over and over again. While many of the cars weren't my cup of tea, I did find it refreshing to look at something differnet and appreciate the thought that must have gone into them. But I can totally see why they annoy some people. The beauty of Ford Fair is that it's so big that you can completely avoid the 'slammed stuff' and the rows of lookalike STs and still have a great show.

I guess there are still the same 'knuckle draggers' doing the rounds, it's just there's also bearded freaks and air-ride mincers in the mix now!

And as you've correctly pointed out it is, and always has been, a commercial venture - you can't make a show that size without having to pay big money, so it has to cost money and therefore any company willing to take it on, and take the financial risk, has to see a profit out of it. And as Kelsey are brave enough to launch new Ford shows (Ford Fest) they're also providing a platform for Ford fans to enjoy their hobbies.

Default Ford Fair 2015

To be fair I didn't go last year as I was also fed up of seeing rows upon rows of the same focus and sts etc but thinking about it I can just walk past them if I don't like them it's not a problem. The only thing that's not the same for me any more is the lack of custom cars which is what I'm into. It is a sea of same (ish) looking cars with bolt and stick on mods which I find very boring when u see 100 focuses or fiestas with the same inlet or tuning goodies. What happened to the guys who pushed the boundaries in there sheds and garages at home? Perhaps the cars have become too complicated for the guy at home to take the plunge and rip it apart and make something different? Not trying to have a go as I love fords and all car makes not just fords and love seeing someone doing something different. I did see a saph Cossie a couple of years back at ford fair and fair enough it had a bit of primer here and there and was obviously a rolling project (something u used to see all the time) but he
Was doing some home made mods on it id
Never seen before and so stopped to have a chat to him. He was just getting ready to go home halfway through the day and I was like what's up? He looked pissed off, he said here stand over there and look and listen. Sure
Enough within a couple of minutes u could
Here people saying "look at that piece of shit" and "why's he bothering, u can buy bits off the shelf for that". I shook his hand and said well I think it's cool mate and that was one of the last car shows I ever went to

I had a great day out with the Mrs and a good mate.

Had 3 cars booked on but one lad last minute decided to go to a fishing competition instead and my mate wasn't feeling good enough to drive down so he came in the ST with us instead

And my Mrs said it was very nice of you to offer her a front spot Steve, she was happier for it to be taken by a proper show car and not just another standard ST though, she said she will 100% be back next year

Well I've just arrived back now, sunburnt to fuck! Loved it, think it was quite a bit better than last year, I felt that there was a far better trade area and auto jumble than last years, also felt that the cars on display seemed to be more varied than last year, didn't feel it was rows and rows of focus STs, spotted far more sierra RS500s this year too, some stands had lime 3 each! Went to the passionford stand at about 3pm(ish) and I couldn't find anyone to say hi too! Loads of cars still there though, good to see it looks like Sam made it all the way from France too! Fair play to him. Cracking day out all in all and I even treated myself to a 1 18 mk2 escort model (close as I'm going to get to owning one). No complaints from me!

I saw a few yes. Didn't get any pics of the track action cause I only have a little compact camera and the zoom isn't good enough on it to get a good shot.

I 100% agree with DanW, opinions are not facts, i really enjoyed it, some fantastic cars out there! Im not a fan of stance and stretch but i can appreciate it and to be honest there wasnt much of that going on there. If everyone had the same taste it would be 1 very boring show, as for the STs and mk2 RSs there was loads of them but theres loads of them for a reason

It was my first time at ford fair and I enjoyed it, I'll go again. I parked in the public car park though not on the stand. The PF stand looked good, I had a look around and saw some cars I recognize from being on here.
I Mainly went to see 80's and 90's stuff so I soon got bored of seeing focus and fiesta st's so I just skipped passed them in the end, so nothing really to complain about there.

Great show and no complaints about any of the cars regardless of their era and I love looking at the modern cars like the Focus RS's and ST's, OK so there might have been a lot that came out of the factory looking the same but a lot of the owners have put their own stamp on them to make them slightly different.
Will definitely be going to Ford Fest at Santa Pod.

I agree mate I am for different but to be different then you need to be different not just copy what the jap or vw boys are doing its just a mindless cop out there seems to be no personality or originality no more and look how mad the concourse has gone its just the same winners each year because the bar is set that high there isn't no evolving going on because many are not entering more than show and shine as there put off ! Its just a shame imo

Got a question to ask that my other half asked me but I didn't know the answer to, why were some of the cars on track either removing their rear number plates completely or sticking black tape over some of the letters or numbers? I know some people tape up their headlights but couldn't understand why the number plate?????

There's a finite amount of things you can do with a car, and I personally don't see that taking inspiration from other makes is a bad thing. Scenes move on, they change, and they adapt. I totally get that you don't like it, and you're 100% allowed to have that opinion, but to say it "has no originality" is a bit daft coming from the Ford world which has the reputation of being the most unoriginal and 'sheep-like' of any scene out there. Not all change is bad!

Agree about the concours comments, that it's the same winners wining. It's a difficult nut to crack as they can't penalise those with the cleanest cars. There was an attempt made to have an 'amateur' class to draw new people in, but I don't think it was pushed hard enough and has since been forgotten about I guess.

Concours is one of those things that will slowly dwindle away until someone takes charge and does something about it, but it does need to open up to new entrants and make it easier for them... presuming there are enough people out there who want to get into it? It's a separate argument I guess, and I've certainly not got the answers. I do struggle with seeing nearly new cars competing, as can't really see where the skill in that is...

Incase they appear on websites, or in print and don't want people to know that their car has been on track I guess? I always think it's a bit comical when it's a really distinctive car, which is obvious regardless of the numberplate.

Also if they crash on track they will park it on the road side ditch and say they crashes on road.so if this happens a number plate on show in pics then they would be in big trouble

Had a cracking day as usual, mind you did try something new this year taking to the track in the 10am track session, and best bit the old beast drove off under its own power unlike a couple of focus rs's lol.
If people actually spend time and look at some of the more modern stuff, they will notice that some have a few unique touches done to them, which is quite hard when they are so mass produced.
No I dont own a new motor but can appreciate the work some people put into their cars.

btw who saw the transit vans out on track ? cant say they were boring, slow possibly lol

Did anyone get any pics of the transits out on track ?
