Default Car cuts out?

I'm currently driving a 53 plate Focus and on the way home experienced the car literally cutting out on me twice (the first time was joining a dual carriageway at about 20mph the second time was slowing down at about 40mph - the engine light comes on I also loose steering until the car restarts itself within a second or two, a little later in the journey the car felt like it lacked power when pressing the accelerator. Any suggestions on what this could be please and am I safe to drive?

There are lots of things that it could be, maybe dirty fuel filter, maybe faulty fuel pump as it sounds like a temporary lack of fuel to me. A fault code may be showing, have you checked? Your power steering only works when the engine is running but your problem is serious and you need to get it sorted asap.

Default Car cuts out?

Needs plugging into a diag scanner as the eml light has flashed up so they'll be a fault stored

My brother had this, he tended to do town runs and never really open the car up, iirc it was carbon build up, google it and loads of threads up up, speed control valve? something like that.
