Default removing centre section?

midlife crisis coming up. nearly 40..lol

on my meagre 1.8 mk2 mondeo i got standard centre section and stanless twin exit pipercross rear sections, always found they have lil noise but want them bit more fruitier sounding, im not removing the catalyst, but thought i had to replace the centre section recently and have old one to chop out centre box and put pipe instead, im not looking for more power etc etc??

i know not a an rs xr cossie.. but still my baby.

any advice be great.

Works well on turbo cars
Mixed results on non turbos
Mind you, I've done it on mine and on the rollers it gave a full 35% more torque (120lb/ft to 160lb/ft) with just the exhaust and air filter and a whole 8 bhp

But it's an auto so that might be why
