Default New Focus ST's - anyone got one?

Possibly thinking about a new shape Focus ST 2.0l ecoboost, 250hp and 40mpg...

Does anyone have any experience of them?
After something bigish so will be an estate to get the bike in the back etc

Something like this:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...tate?logcode=p

Just after some general feedback as to what they are like to live with, fed up of shit old cars with massive miles and will have to borrow cash to buy one so intension is own it for a good few years so kind of want to know what ill be letting myself in for.

Cheers chaps

I'd be interested too as I'm just mulling over between a new Octavia VRS estate and one of these, can't decide, although every ford I've ever had has had to have some sort of transmission work ie driveshafts, hubs etc which has rather put me off and I've had no sign of any fragility with my current Octavia

I was set on an octavia vrs too, but the focus has more power, better economy and cheaper tax. Dont think there was much between the insurance side of things.
The octavia is a bigger car too. I hate the early octys but the royal bank of fudge has agreed to lend me some cash so i can up my budget a bit.
Also the newer octavias have DSG gearboxes and they seem prone to duel mass failures.

We have a 57 reg cmax that we have had since 2011 and got with 8k miles on it, on 33k now and no issues at all

Ive owned my Focus St from new it's a ST2 with the style pack and a few other extras.

Issues I've had is high level brake light gets condensation
Light up door sill illumination stopped working
Door protector's easily brake, clever idea but wish I didn't bother with this option.
Sony Stereo and Sync System has froze a few times.
All has been covered by warranty

They do go through Tyres and brakes, though Goodyear eagle F1 are not really expensive

My only problem has been Customer service has been terrible (TrustFord) really not sure I would bother buying a new Ford again due to some other issues.

I did a good few thousand miles in a new ST estate last year or so. Driving like a saint, the very best I could ever get out of it on my 35 mile commute to work was 32mpg.

It was a fun car, though struggled to put power down and tried to torque steer a lot. Still enjoyed it plenty and would recommend test driving one for sure.

Thanks chaps, ill be buying private i expect so i doubt ill get any warranty, which hopefully wont bite me in the ass.

i do around 6-7k miles a year, its 10 miles each way to work along B roads and 1 mile of duel carriageway. the A3 TDI quattro i have at the mo will do 40mpg with its arse handed to it quite often. i could live with low 30's i expect - ill just have to leave earlier lol

There not the best on Fuel, I only run mine on V power or tesco 99 momentum but to be honest doesn't bother me too much

As for the Torque Steer this can become very frustrating when trying to make progress tramping and hopping, this is not as bad when in Sport Mode, also there is a revised rear engine mount

A couple of mates have had them stolen via OBD port, so some sort of protection/relocation would be a must I say.

So a 300bhp remap is out of the question then lol

im still deciding at the mo, the A3 is going in for MOT on monday then its however much i can get for that really plus whatever else i can sell before i have a real idea of exactly how much ill have to spend on a car.
the DMF on the the A3 has started to rattle/vibrate a bit, still drives fine but i cant be fucked to replace it all as its a big job and i just dont have time at the mo. parts are Ł350 plus fitting so i expect you wont get much change out of Ł700 all in if a garage does it.
car is only worth about Ł2600 in good nick, so ill stick it up for Ł2100 and see what happens

I don't have one but was looking at and sat in an estate one at Simply Ford show the other week. Really like it as a thing and they appear to be well put together. In fairness, I was getting my mrs to see if she could live with a focus and I was toying with an RS when they are finally released.

I've test driven quite a few and they all stated 27mpg, it's way better than my RS admittedly but I'd hope it would be better, guy at work has a 14 plate golf tgi and gets 35mpg

I had mine new in September last year its a st3 with a few other options. I won't be keeping it for much longer it's not a bad car but as others have said it has terrible torque steer and on anything but dry roads it just lights the tyres up. The suspension is a bit bouncy and the mpg averages 26 and the most is 30 on a run to France sat between 70-80mph.

Have had my st3 from new, have done 10,000 miles now. Only issue was the aerial died so the satnav couldn't find a location, fixed under warranty no sweat. I don't do short journeys in the car say under 8 miles. I find the fuel consumption quite good for what it is really, average 350 miles to a tank with mixed driving, more with motorway and lighter use of the accelerator.
Struggles for grip in 1st & 2nd but is quick from 3rd onwards.

I really like it. Worth a test drive to anyone considering imo.

Cheers for the feedback chaps. As said i do 10 miles each way to work mostly b roads with a mile of duel carriageway. Currently getting 500 miles out the A3 to a tank, having sold my old impreza that was averaging 21mpg lol.

I guess you cant have everything tho, power and fuel economy etc.

I will probably notice it tho as ill have to put fuel in more often lol

I've never been bothered about mpg.

I bet most performance cars that are front wheel drive will torque steer.

Well, i picked it up today.
i think it likes drinking petrol and eating front tyres lol.

Goes pretty well, used nearly 1/4 of a tank on the way home. Which was about 40 miles

I cant pair my iphone to the ford sync tho, the ipad has no issues but the phone wont connect lol

sounds fabulous

Keep us updated on how you get on with it, I opted for a 320d msport touring after trying to decide between a focus ST and Octy VRS wagon

Averaging 53mpg after two weeks so not bad, goes pretty well too

As you keep posting Glenn but that doesn't necessarily follow for everybody, you would care a lot if you did 25k miles a year for example

Its black, wanted a blue one but they all seemed 1-2k more expensive.
Its an ST2, has style pack, sat nav, rear parking camera, hill start assist, handsfree phone (if you dont have an iphone lol), little things that pop out to protect the door edges, illuminated sill pates.
and probably some other stuff i dont know about lol

as for mpg, i didnt buy it as i need 500mpg, i only do about 7k a year so shouldnt be too bad. average over 60 miles so far is 25 lol, was 27 after a fair bit of town driving yesterday and then i was late for work this morning so it dropped a bit...

it goes well, and drives nice so thats all i am worried about really.

Might take the symposer pipe off as it sounds a bit ghay
and get a K&N filter for some turbo noises, and possibly a remap but other than that, nothing planned.

its a daily so needs to be reliable lol
