Default Don't you love a cheap fix

Had a clunking sound coming from what I thought was the CV joints and it had been getting worse and worse. Finally had time to inspect and it turn out to be the rivets that hold the ball joint onto the lower arm had worn on both sides. The ball joint was fine, so I cut off the rivets and replaced with nuts and bolts. Changed the car completely, it's now a joy to drive again. Result

It's great when it doesn't cost a penny. I was expecting to have to replace the drive shafts.

I had one of these today!!

What I thought was the diff on my Mondeo was getting noisy. It was making a horrible typical fucked box sounding whine at 2500rpm and got noticeably louder when going round roundabouts. Thought it had to be the diff?

Anyway I was under the bonnet the other day and noticed the power steering fluid was frothing over out of the reservoir all over the fooking floor. Did a bit of looking about online, turns out its common for them to block the filter inside the reservoir. Bought a new one from Ford and fitted this morning, foaming has stopped, cured all the whining too. Turns out it was the power steering pump whining and not the gearbox lol. Quite lucky I didn't get the box out for a rebuild!!

When you fitted the new reservoir, did you take the green gauze thing out of the bottom outlet? It seemed to be totally blocking the flow from the tank, after fitting it I had no PS at all until I took the tank off again and junked this bit that wasn't in the old one!
