New Member looking for a Mondeo ST TCDi
Hi all,
As above I have been looking at purchasing a ST TDCi mondeo and being new to these and to be fair Fords in general looking for some advice on what to look out for and general values.
I have had a wide verity of cars from a Pug 106 GTi', Astra GSi Turbo, Celica VVTLi 190 and even a 1.7 diesel Corsa SRi but I currently own a Subaru Impreza Widetrack STi and looking to either run the mondeo along side this or eventually in its own right.
I have been looking at the ST TDCI as I like the sporty looks and the fact it should return good MPG for running about in. Well there's a bit about me so hello to you all and thanks in advance for any help and advice given.

we have an estate mondeo st tdc1 2.2 55 plate, its done 156k miles now and its a great car, id recommend them from my experience. 0-60 in 9 seconds and good on diesel driven appropriately, and plenty of grunt for daily duties.

Have you had any issues with the car given the higher milage, tbh all the cars I've looked at have less than 60k on them so I'm hoping there shouldn't be any major issues with them

Dont let people scare you when they go on about dodgey injectors dodgey flywheels. There just the same as any other car but just cause its a ford they seem to get slated.
I work on a fleet of vans which have a load of tranny vans which use the same engine. Apart from changing a few egr valves and a few diesel pressure switches they have been a bloody good van. We had one with over 250k on the clock and it was still sweet as a nut.

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
I've got an ST tdci, it's a great car. It does 90 miles a day and gets a hiding but she's well looked after and has'nt missed a beat apart from the clutch slave cyclinder failed but that turned out to be a cheap Chinese item that the previous owner had fitted
I put 300ml of mineral two stroke oil in with a full tank. It makes the engine run smoother, less engine knock, better performance and better mpg it also help to lubricate the fuel system, injectors, pump etc.
Listen out for a rumble noise from the belts and pulleys from cold, this will indicate worn belts and crank pulley.
Poor cold start could be pump or injectors.
Listen out for DMF which will rattle like a skeleton having a wank.
Look for corrosion on the bottoms of the doors, I believe this affected models up to 2005. My 2006 model is fine.
Dodgey handbrake.
Rear subframe bushes will knock when worn. I've replaced mine with polybushes.
I would recommend a decat, the difference it made was very noticeable.
Like most cars they have their issues but if maintained correctly its a great car to own

Only thing that ever went on mine was the aux belt tensioner (common) and a rear wheel bearing. Other than that it was faultless.

I have an ST Tdci. 07 plate, last they made in that shape. Recaros, lowered on eibach's 30/40mm spacers and 19" Focus RS Rims. LED lights throughout and I modified the powerfold mirrors to fold in with the central locking. Just turned 59k and has full service history. Could be pursuased to sell but really like the car. Especially the heated seats this time of year

What sort of price are you looking for pal? Sounds a nice car and just within my milage bracket. I would have to put it back to OE though as modified cars are'nt my thing so I'd have to factor that into my price. Also what colour is it as I don't want silver?
Cheers for the reply

I'd put it in the top bracket for the ST Tdci's available mate. So i'd be asking Ł7k
But its silver, so thats no good to you

Ah I'd said to myself I defiantly don't want silver either, my last few cars were silver so want to be different this time. 7k sound about right, maybe a little much but with your spec I'm sure you'll get close to that

Of course I totally agree, when I was looking for my impreza I looked at rough low milage cars and clean high ones but I'm not in any immediate rush so will just wait to find a good one that meets my needs, milage age colour condition etc
