Performance Ford - New Ed, hello!
Howdy,
Not sure if this is the right place, but I couldn't find a 'new member' room, so I opted for this - mods, if it's wrong I'll happily take a smack on the knuckles.
Anyway, hello. I'm Chris, the new Editor of Performance Ford Magazine, and seeing as PassionFord seems to be the big'ol hub for anything with a blue oval, I figured it would be wise to say hi.
I know PF has been the, shall we say, less popular of the two of late, but hopefully I can work to change that. We've got some exciting stuff planned along with some cracking features and project cars. It should be pretty exciting. Or at least that's the aim.
Anyway, for now I just wanted to say hello. Also, go easy on me, this is a steep learning curve for me! Though I did work on the mag a few years ago, so I know what it's all about and what should be in there, and now I have my Editor hat, I can hopefully implement that.
Any thoughts, questions, ideas so on and so forth, I'm all ears.
Cheers,
Chris

It's nice to see you pop onto the forum chris as pf mag has been very lacklustre lets say and does need a kick up the arse, and we hope for improvements and by god you have come onto the right forum for gathering input as every motor mouth in the ford scene is on here as well as some of the countrys top ford owners

Problem is they wont listen. Bullshit figures sell mags so nothing will change. Its a business not a guide to what actually is happening in the Ford scene. No timing, No graphs, no proof just bullshit been like that for years.

Ye never going to happen sorry. Even though it was the best thing about any car mag, I remember redline used to do a lot of thrashes too, and look what they did with that mag.

I stopped buying ford mags a few years ago. The main reasons are that it seems u now need 50000 bhp or a millionaires bank balance or pay someone else or a tuning company's demo car to get a feature and I've no interest in how much "Dave" paid "Rs tuning" to get his car to "this spec" as I'm interested in the cars people have built for themselves. The other reason is that I think I've been left behind lol, I still love the old xr fords they used to feature and all the Orion's, capris and cortinas etc (most of the older stuff) and have absolutely zero interest in fantastic plastic ford focuses as every single one either looks the same to me or has identical bolt on mods that anyone can buy from a shop. What happened to the guys that actually made stuff for there cars that no one else has? I miss the "wow I've never seen one of those before" moments, and the bloke saying yeah I made that from this and that. I may just be getting old and none of this is meant to offend anyone it's just my opinion so sorry for any offence! Just the way I feel about the whole lot. One example is the stuff I've done on my Cossie, I've only bought the bits I had to, injectors and chip etc but like my home made breather system, when I popped the bonnet people were like why did u bother doing that? U can buy this and that from Bailey etc. I said yeah Bailey want Ł200 for all that and this cost me Ł8.99 in total for the same result! I may just be getting old lol :-( I really enjoy classic ford and retro ford mags and have started reading practical classics magazine. Classic ford mag defo my favorite and absolutely love the classic ford show

Find myself agreeing with you there on a few points Gcfcos. classic ford does get it right with home builds and I love their grafters section of the mag, its always the bit I read 1st regardless of where it is in the mag.

I've actually been employed to do this because of my passion for the scene. I was just a Features Ed last time I worked on PF, but now I'm the Gaffer. I want it to reflect what's going because that's what you lot want.
As for it being a business, yes, it is. Obviously. But I don't own it, so if it's all bullshit, I'll be out of a job.
Mags don't sell like they did in the '90s, there's no denying that. However, there's nothing to say the mags that are still here can't deliver good content. Don't be angry at business side of it - that's not my arena - tell me what you want to see.
I'm just one of the custodians of the scene's voice. I can only put out what the scene puts in.
Cheers,
Chris

Thanks for all the warm welcomes though, guys. It takes the pressure off to know that you're keen to see what happens.
I'm only a PM away, or just drop me an email on chris@projectviva.co.uk if you want to give me your thoughts, cars or events. It's all to play for at the minute and as such, I'm all ears.

Hi Chris,
Well done on the new role, look forward to some changes.
Like others I would love to see some group thrashes return and always thought the articles on visiting different tuners workshops were interesting. Beat the dorf was also good to compare performance would be good to see something like this return.

We are looking into the group stuff, but as has been pointed out, the problem is H&S and insurance these days. Not to mention the morons that move next to an airfield or race track and THEN COMPLAIN ABOUT NOISE! (sorry, rant over).
We're working on something though, don't worry about that.

GCFCOS. I also agree with you. Yeh i do like the newer fords but i rarely read about them in the mags cause they dont interest me. Most of the the cars that do get feature hardly ever get used. I asked FF for a feature on mine and they said it wasnt good enough.
I like to read about peoples stories about the cars and not about how much its cost to build and how much bhp they have.

Congrats on the new job Chris, hope it all works out well
Must say I haven't bought either of the mags for some time, usually when a particular car or feature takes my eye but looking forward to the changes.
I agree that Classic Ford is a great read, as it has the grafters section and home builds, but I realise that doesn't appeal to everyone. You are never going to please everyone but best of luck regardless!

Hello, and a good choice to come and say hello.
My issue with PF is really to do with the technical detail, lack of it combined with simple mistakes. A car mag should in my eyes be written by enthusiasts with technical sections being written by experts not fresh media/journalism graduates which was my take on events.
The last magazine I flicked through had numerous mistakes and any technical info had clearly been written by some one who really didn't know much about cars. Forget the scene thing as I don't think that's as important to Ford owners as the 'VAG scene' and focus on finding epic cars and doing write ups with solid information to impress.
As an example, I would far sooner read the un-colourful words of a motorsport engineer, than the meandering drivel of a journalist who's words were pretty but with out substance. Better still.... engineers write, editors adapt to sell. That way we get the info and the good read.
Best of luck, and hope to have some interesting articles to read in the future.
