Default MOT testers, probably been asked before

Now then chaps, been a while. My daily rot box rotter fabia (actually been rather good for £450) is due an mot soon. Few bits I need to sort, like a seat belt that never gets used and takes around 17 days to retract.
But the one I'm quite unsure about is engine management lights. Its been on since I had it, and with the new laws, are they a fail, or just an advisory. Many conflicting opinions. Dunno the guidelines myself any more.

I'd have thought provided it passes emissions, the EML isnt testable, but Im guessing.

That said, most EML issues will cause emissions issues.....

Its been turned off 3 or 4 times, throws up no code either, using a proper vag com. This is were it gets silly if it fails an mot for it.

If any warning lamp is related to the braking system it's a fail.

When my Octavia last went in the MOT tester plugged his scanner in to see what codes were in to establish whether it was brake related (turned out to be the steering position clock spring, used on ESP)

He does say 'engine management light' people seem to be referring to the SRS and ABS

I passed a motor on Saturday with the eml on, I haven't seen any special notices recently saying otherwise

There's no reason for it to fail for the eml, if it passes the emissions then its just advisory, if it does fail for the eml kick up a fuss and ask him to show u where in the mot manual it states the 'eml illuminated' is a reason for rejection. He will have a hard time trying to apply a reason for rejection that doesn't exsist

Good to know, is this a Vauxhall feature!!, my Dad's Astra Mk4 1.4 had this earlier on in the year, he'd just got the car, the garage said helpfully take it for good thrash that will clear it!!! It would come on/off intermittently, sometimes with code sometimes not. New air filter, and cleaned throttle body and intake and it been ok so far.
