Default Towing with an A frame

Yes its that old chestnut, is it legal?

Car A is escort cab, moted, disabled tax..
Car B is a pug estate, all legal

Can car B tow car A using a solo A frame? from 1 point to another. There will be no steersman for the towing car and will be fitted with a light board.

The internet is giving all sorts of mix messaged and the car needs to moved by this saturday.

In theory the towed car becomes a trailer. The only issue legaly i say is the fact that is the car being towed will weigh more than 750kg. all trailers weighing more than 750 kg have to be braked. So unless its the propper fancy a frame that has a self braking system then no it wont be legal. A frames are made for moving broken down vehicles in an emergency just like towing dollies.

It's only legal for recovery to the next point on safety. I.e if your Broken down you can be towed off the road to a safe point not 20 miles up the road home! But 9 out of 10 coppers will not look twice. But if you have a smash and vosa / the rule book come out your in trouble

I've seen a lot of motorhomes dragging small cars about with them so if they are using a A frame they aren't recovering because they are used to drive around when they stop off somewhere. I may be wrong but I thought this when I was going to get one.

the a frames they use have permanent fixtures to front of car and are tied into the braking system so they are legal. they are not the ebay £130 ones. ps your flywheel i got off you has finally been fitted a few wks back
