Exactly what I think it is doing too, hence my post. I don't know if there is a breather or anything that should get rid of air in the system, if not then it's pulling air in somewhere which is causing it to rush up through the system to the tank, taking a load of fluid with it.

Im fucked off with it.

Mikey said he will get ford to have a bash. If they find what it is 100% then I'll get Mikey to sort it.
If not After that it'll go on eBay for a swap.

Off loading the problem with this to Mikey now.

He's buying the Mondeo off me. Drop it off to him tomorrow.
The Mrs got a bit emotional that it's going as its her first car. (Well now she can relate to what it was like for me to get rid of the ST with her bloody moaning)

But went and got this to replace the mondeo.

Jeep Commander.

Hope so as well.

Went to take the mondeo to Mikey just now and it wouldn't bloody start.

Went down anyway and V5 filled in so I'll post that off later.

Hopefully you get to the bottom of the steering issue soon and cheaply!

You get good cars and bad cars from any manufacturer. The mondy you had has defo been a bad one. The wifes step dad a 1.8tdci mk4 for 2 years and it was spot on.

That's it mate.

Only other things it let me down on is the battery which don't last forever and the starter motor. So nothing major.

Feel guilty for selling it the way it is but sold it cheap and Mikey knows what he's getting.

Ohh dear haha hope I can get mine sorted. Having bled the system manually then turning on the engine with a full full res tank it works a treat absolutely fine that's why I think it's the tank.

And ohh dear hope it's nothing too bad on the Jeep there supposed to be pretty reliable I thought.

Nothing major.

He didn't enjoy fitting the lift kit on it. Said I may go the whole hog and get a full lift kit for him to do next

Full dealer history but finding more and more stuff that the dealer hasn't bothered to do. Blocked air filter was one!

That filter is shocking CarloS. My cossie was the same full service history. The fuel filter had 05/06/91 on the side of the filter.

Stu at MSD found it when it went in for some work to be done.

The hand brake doesn't work, thought it'll just need adjusting.

There is no pads at all on it. Takes the piss.

Sounds like a good garage. Shame it's so far away for me else I would pay a visit. It's hard to find a good one round here that are actually mechanics and not just fitters

Exactly. I moved to Liverpool 5 years ago and asked on here for decent garages and used Mikey ever since.

Even my exes mum won't use anywhere else now.

I’ve had the same issue, system was air locked but changed oil to mercon v and that sorted it out. I now seem to have a tight spot in the middle of the rack which makes driving in a straight line difficult! New rack coming Thursday.

Noise went 10x worse so recon pump fitted, noise a little better but got worse and loss of power steering completely at intermittent times. Thought maybe dodgy recon so another one ordered and fitted under warranty still intermittent loss, notchy steering and noisy!!

Rack was last thing on the list, so got one of those ordered and fitted, cleaned pipes to check no blockages, all to no avail!

Last hope was today, another pump on as i thought if racks fucked it could be restricting flow and fucking all the pumps i'm putting on Still no better so quick ring to Ford they say flush reservoir again as shit build up from before rack could still be in the base of the bottle and restricting flow. Did this and it improved it greatly to be fair, quiet on idle and with wheels off floor its a lot quieter but with weight on under load the noise is ridiculous.

So after a modified reservoir, 3 power steering pumps and a steering rack we are still at square one. My heads absolutely battered with it, Carl is at a big loss and we've got no where.

Fords

Any advice greatly appreciated!
Good morning mate, I know that this post is old, but I am having exactly the same problem. Already triyed with two different pumps, a new rack and even braking the filter of the reservoir. All the pipes were cleaned and still the same issue.... It is driving me crazy. I would be really grateful if you can tell me how the issue was solved in the end.
Thanks in advance,
best regards
NS

Hi Vinnie,
After several frustrated attemps I was finally able to solve it. First I chaged two times the pump (one of them was delivered faulty and therefore returned to the seller), replaced the rack and cleaned the connecting pipes. I bought a brand new reservoir (with the filter in the return hose connection). Then, with the car suspended in jacks I started adding the steering fluid slowly and at the same time I turned the wheel alternatively in each direction as far as it went. When no more air bubbles were observed and no more reduction in the level was observed I lowered the car and removed the jacks.
Driving: The first two days there was a slight steering noise. However, the third day I drove through the highway for 40 km at about 130km/h and the noise dissapeared.
Now I have a new problem with the H7 bulb holders (but this is for another chapter of the forum )
If you have questions regarding the steering problem, please let me know.

Thanks a lot Nicolas, I have order new reservoir and 2 liter ford fluid , I don't think I need new pump or rack the noise is small only when steering is fully turn is got this whining noise but little bit but nothing serious. Maybe is air or the filter is blocked .
I will changed this weekend if whether is good and I will let you know . Thanks again .

Hiya, not sure if this will help! I had a noise issue on my Mk4 2.2 and thought it was the steering pump, as did the mechanic!, changed it but the noise continued, to cut a long story short, it was the clutch pulley on the alternator making the noise, changed it and all noise gone!!!
