Default Mk2 Focus RS Prices?

What do you think will happen to them, i was really thinking of getting one as there about 20k but apparantly when the new RS comes out they reckon the Focus RS will plummet in price.

last thing i want to do is pay 20k for a car then 3 years time its worth 13-14k

On their way down IMO....i think in 3 years time only very low mileage unmodified cars will be fetching £15k+

They're just like any other newish sporty car and not all owned by enthusiasts and used in any weather so they'll start deteriorating in condition and prices will reflect this as per the MK1 - they're nearly 6 years old now.

I certainly wouldnt pay anything like the money there commanding at the mo. We had one in at work the other day and i could not believe how poorly made they are and some of the common issues they have. For example on a seemingly nice 30k mile car the back arches are starting to go rusty where they meet the bumper on both sides! All the suspension components underneath were coverd in surface rust, wheels corroding ect. Parts are very expensive too

I think most examples are over inflated at the moment and that they'll take a nose dive in price next year.

Still fairly stable at the moment but if and when a new FRS does come out I guess they'll start to drop more quickly but I don't think that they will plummet. In 3 years I bet a £20k car now will still be worth £16k.
Not everyone will be able to afford a new FRS when they come out so you will still have people in the market for the outgoing model and these people will be the reason that the prices don't plummet as there will still be a demand for that model.

I think I saw you mention this on FB Paul. I'm not specifically asking for the price you paid but whats the market like on these and what's the premium over a standard one? Are they available or rarely for sale?

Ofcourse they will drop, it's only a focus at the end of the day. They do seem to be depreciating rather slowly however.
The problem is a £20k car can be nice or a total shitebag, there doesn't seem to be any difference in what people are asking, that's used cars for you in general I guess.

If you want some sort of affordable investment, get a 1M, they're going up in value all the time if that's the sort of thing you're trying to achieve.

I sold my 1st Mk2 in 2012 and expected prices to drop, prices are slightly higher 2 years on which I never expected to see. Mk1 prices are also climbing slightly as well.

IMO Mk1 prices are still falling for tatty ones....rising for low mileage well maintained unmolested ones

MK2's still have the fall to make before the tatty ones go down and the smart ones go back up

It happens to all models of RS's.....not sure why people never recognise this

Price is determined by supply and demand........once tidy low milers become a bit more scarce then the price goes up......demand for a tatty one with high miles will go down with age

I have an offer on the table somewhere close to what I paid for mine new 5 years ago!

Low owner, low mileage mint condition cars are holding their money. Like most desirable cars I guess...

Trouble I have is do I sell it!

Can't argue with residuals like that!

Question you've gotta ask yourself is, what would you replace it with? Most stuff like this seems to drop value relatively sharply when new, but the mk2 RS defies belief really.

Each to their own and I do like what Ford produced but the car isn't exactly well finished (fake mesh by head lights, nasty brake callipers etc) Just amazes me how solid the prices are, obviously there's a lot more people who want one than there are cars available or something.

Despite my personal opinion of the car, I think they'll still be fetching strong money in a few years. You could buy a new Impreza (or similar) and lose close to £10k in the first 5 years, I bet your RS won't lose anywhere near that in the next 5 years.

Thats my problem!

Pay it off the mortgage, spend it on the house refurb? Long run both the sensible options, however have the rest of my life to do that! Hopefully anyway!

Buy a classic and put some money away for the rainy day? Problem with that is finding the right car and not buying a money pit!

Actually thinking of putting some money in and buying a Focus RS 500 or a BMW 1M, both surely set to to retain value better than a standard RS?

I then go back to square one, keeping the car I can just jump in and drive and keep clean. Yes it sits in the garage and yes it will go down in value over time but it will have always been mine from new and one day go back up in value?
