Anyone got a mk4 Mondeo TDCi?
Me and my wife were very lucky to have a little girl arrive eight weeks ago, I currently own a 61 plate ford focus 1.6 petrol, being 6ft 3in my drivers seat is all the way back and now baby is here my wife sits behind me and the car seat goes behind the passenger seat, once the pram is in the boot that's filled aswel, we need more room.
I'm looking at TDCi Mondeos in particular the newer shape titanium model with daytime running lights and 18's, having never owned a diesel which do I go for? There's also the 1.6 petrol Ecoboost?

I have a fettle 1.8TDCi which I've fettled with. Had mine 2 years and put 50k on it.
I've driven a 1.6 TDCi, a 2.0 TDCi (140) and I've had a play with a 2.0 TDCi (163).
The 1.6 and 2.0 diesels are Peugeot engines and all the power is very high up the revs for a diesel. It's strange because the same engines in the Peugeot 508 are quite powerful and excellent on fuel but for some reason they aren't has torquey low down in the Mondeo and nowhere near as frugal.
My 1.8TDCi has had its EGR blanked off, the CAT has been removed and it's been remapped. It has 146bhp and 400nms of torque so it has some great in gear shove. Best of all it will return over 70mpg on a run! You don't get 70mpg out of a 1.6 or 2.0!
Also in standard form the 1.8TDCi has excatly the same torque as a 2.0!
Only issue with the 1.8TDCi is that it has a twin timing belt setup which will cost you £700 to get a dealer to replace it.

Depends what sort of mileage your going to do. I'm looking at 1.6 petrol ecoboosts which should see 190hp with a remap and 290nm of torque. I only do a 5 mile commute to work so a diesel with dpf etc would not cut it.
The cars themselves are brilliant, huge inside, loads of toys and seem to wear well (there 7 years old now)

PassionFord Post Whore!!
I've got the 2.0 and plenty of grunt in the low revs. Doesn't need revving at all for the power.
They also do a 2.2 diesel as well.
Boot is massive! So plenty of room for a pram, bags, shopping etc.
Get near 40 mpg round town and 55 on a run.
For a family car I can't fault it.

Thanks for the replies, my current issue is losing 2k on my ford focus in the 11 months I've owned it but needs must I'm afraid, although the wife doesn't agree!
Does that include the more modern models? Currently looking at a 2011 1.8tdci titanium. Blocking the DPF has stopped me buying a modern diesel when I bought my focus last September.
