Default Duratec engine with evo box?? Update 30/08/14

Basically I'm getting another focus rs and I'm wanting it 4wd, at the moment I'm going down the route of cosworth engine and running gear, already spoke to mark at ma developments about the engine and Steve a1 rally sport regarding the fab work.

Whilst I was talking to Steve I was saying I want my focus 4wd and at the moment the only way I can see it happening is down the cosworth route as I didn't no if the evo gearbox would fit. He said he's got an evo on a ramp at the moment and he's going to have a look and a measure up to ee if it's possible.

Just wanted to know if anybody on here has seen or heard about a duratec/zetec engine mated up with an evo gearbox?

Getting the running gear like prop etc to fit will all be fine. It's just if the bell housing on the evo gearbox can be made to fit to frs engine?

Help would be appreciated.

Cheers
Trev

Most things can be made to fit .
You may get away with a basic bell housing adaptor which is sandwiched between the engine and box but letting all the hole line back up

The Focus RS uses a Zetec engine, despite the Duratec cam cover and Crazycage on here has made an Evo gearbox fit one. Not sure if he uses an adaptor plate or adapts the bellhousing itself though.

But yes, it can be done and has been done a couple of times.

Why not get a gearbox from a MK1 Mondeo 4x4 / Escort RS2000 4x4 or an X-Type AWD?
Surely it would be a much option to fit?

The four-wheel drive system/transfer box is made out of chocolate. And not even that harder dark chocolate either!

I was only talking out loud the other day with my mate about putting a EVO 4,5 or 6 gear box and running gear in a Mk1 RS.
Standard looks even when you lift the bonnet but 4WD perfect!

As is the 6speed box in the Evo 8-9's. If your fitting a 5-6 box make sure its had the uprated diff bolts fitted as these are proven to snap

Update:

Well it's been a while but I've managed to sort out the conversion.

Dan at DJM Motorsport has done a similar thing before so for a cracking price I'm going to drop him off the engine and the evo gearbox and in a couple of days time he will have made me a bell housing adapter that allows the evo gearbox to be mated perfectly to be focus rs engine 😊

I've also spoke to Steve again at a1 rallysport and he's just coming back to me with a price on some fabrication to the focus to allow for the diff and stuff as I'm using all evo rear suspension hubs and running gear...

Cheers
Ben

Wer have built a Westfield in work with an evo engine using a type 9 gear box and all we used was a 10mm steel plate with extra holes so I don't see why a zetec won't fit an evo box without much hassle
