If using IDS/ETIS to code keys where the keys have been cleared from PATS memory (adviseable from a salvage auction) you need to pair at least 2 keys to initialise the system.
If just 'adding a key' and not deleting other known keys you can just add 1 key to it.
Some more modern Fords don't allow the old trick of turning key on, off, then adding a blank key they require proper programming.

GVK. Do you have to phone up ford for a code when using the ids tester.
The diagnostic specialist who comes to out work sometimes said that if you turn the ignition on and off 9times you can code a key in. I said you couldnt and only need to turn the ignition on and off 4 times.

No mate, I have dealer access to ETIS with a Ford log-in, so I can request the incodes online. Same as radio codes and access to OASIS for Ford technical.
You know the screen you get on IDS that shows the vin, reason for access, part number, serial number and outcode/error control?
We just go onto ETIS and fill in that form on line, log in again and it gives the incode.
Not sure about the key thing, never needed to do it that way.
4 times on-off puts it in programming mode to learn the remote locking fob, but not the immobiliser, I thought?
Interestingly on the later 2008> Fiestas you need to buckle the seat belts in to learn the key fob.
Also, the new new cars like new shape Focus, you have to use an app called FDRS to learn keys, load later calibrations, program mudules etc., it's a fuckin ball ache to do anything with.

Bram, thats the FDRS thing on ETIS, I fitted a body control module on a Focus a while back had to use it to learn keys and program the module, we had the field engineer down and even he said it's shit.

Sounds just the same as the insignia and Astra j. Programming a key for them is done through tis2web and has you opening and closing doors key in and out and takes around an hour. Long gone of the days that programming new keys and modules would take minuets with TECH2.

Glenn, you can use the standard IDS (toolbox>body>security functions)
But as Bram says you need to log into the Ford ETIS site to be able to get the 4 digit code.
