Default Ford Focus 2 not starting

Hi all,

I got a Ford Focus 2 and the reg is 2005.
After coming from Holidays, I try to start it and it just went dead after few clicking sounds. I thought it was dead battery as it has happened in the past. Later I asked my colleague to give me a jump start and still the car wouldnt start. We even try pushing and starting it.
I called the Automania guys and he said it was the key problem. Apparently the car engine wasnt reading the key because the clock sign keep appearing on the dash board. I called the key guy and he was sure 100% that it is a key problem. I called couple of other mechanics and the other 2 said my ecu is gone. If it was key problem then the mileage should appear on the key board once the engine is switched on. I have been told ECU (second hand) will cost me approx £300-£500 not including labor. I am still not sure what the problem is >

Anyone with ideas or any help.

Thanks
Vikram

I would charge battery first, a dead battery won`t jump sometimes
disconnect earth and power from battery first

Give the starter a tap it might be sticking. You could also try disconnecting the battery for a few hours whilst its on charge.

Pats system out of sync try a recode of the pats and keys usually works, if not send ecu away for repair

Thanks guys.
Got another update.
I have replaced the battery and still not getting anything from the engine. Its not even trying.
Could you clarify what PAT system is? Sorry not good with the cars.
Is it expensive to get your ECU sorted?

Thanks

PATS=Passive Anti Theft System.

It utilizes RFID (the same way contactless payment works)

There is a transponder within your key, that is paired with your car, the immobilizer is then disarmed.

It requires no power, that is for the remote C/L.

There will be an LED inside the car, this should extinguish when the ignition is switched on?

Do you not have a spare key you can try?

Martin
