Default st 170 discs modeo calipers on mk3 escort help???

can anyone help me ive just fitted mk3 mondeo calipers and focus st170 discs onto my mk3 xr3i and my wheels wont fit (15in s1 rs alloys) .i used a 12mm spacer which is what i had read on another thread. tried shaving a little off the caliper but its too tight .are these brakes only for if your running larger diameter wheels?? cheers matty.

There is a user called big g who knows a lot about this conversion. Looking at his pics he has fitted them under 15s but takes a lot off the caliper. Most people just fit 15 or 16 wheels

these do not suit all 15" wheels types and most have to shave a fair bit off caliper to make work and relocate weights etc with OE alloys as plenty who own pumas/fiesta/later escorts run these set ups

i fitted them to my old puma but i have no idea if the std 15" puma and s1 wheels are the same internal diameter.

i had to grind the front top and bottom edges off the callipers all the way along to get the wheels on.

once done it was very close, but worked.

awesome brakes on a small car tho! so well worth the effort

Unless you want to go absolutely mad with the angle grinder they won't fit under 15's - you need 16's as a minimum and even then certain spoke designs will catch on them.

right for anyone using this as a guide i found out today you need at least 13mm to space the caliper out on the mk3 escort. probably the same for the mk4 ,got 12mm spacers made up and fitted wheel would not turn when bolt up as discs was still fouling the caliper added one more 1mm washer in with the spacer and hey presto it moves nice and freely

finally finished with about 4-5mm ground off caliper face.so yes they will go under series one 15in alloys but you need to put some fkn work in to get them to fit

Sorry for jumping on a thread and sorry if this is the dumbest question ever.

Where exactly does the 12mm washer go? I'm guessing it is to push the caliper away from the hub?

Terry
