Default Engine stand mounting options

Just wondering if anyone can help, I have a 1.8 silvertop Zetec from MK5 escort GTI and a Clarke engine stand that I would like to put it on.

Question is what's the best way to do this, if I were to use head bolts would I be screwing these into the threaded holes where the bell housing is attached or would I be better to go through unthreaded holes and bolting it to secure instead.

Any other recommendations are welcome need to get the parts ordered as i will be doing it this weekend!!

If the head bolts are long enough then just fit them into the threaded holes for the bell housing like you said.

if they are not long enough get some m10 threaded bar from b&q etc and use that (will of course need nuts and washers etc on stand end)

On a Zetec you can use the two threaded bell housing bolts under the thermostat/coil pack & then use a couple of nuts & bolts in two of the plain holes further round the bell housing

Right so head bolts are definitely one way to go then, I thought I had some lying around however I can't find them so may need to just purchase some M10 threaded bar and some nuts and washers and go down that route!

Cheers for the suggestions!!

You'll need to cut the head bolts down/use a shit load of washers to mount it from the bell housing holes

I'll probably just go with buying some M10 threaded bar and some nuts and washers, It probably works out cheaper than sourcing head bolts.

What do you reckon?? Doesn't have any information about tensile strengths or load capability but if it's being used in construction it should be good to hold a Zetec to a stand??

Just get some M10 threaded rod, then you know you will have the right length etc.

Cant imagine B&Q being the cheapest for that though.

Gonna pick up the threaded bar and some bolts and washers tomorrow, comes in at around Ł6.00 so very good value!!

As with most my engine stand comes with 4 fixing points, call it a stupid question but can I get away with using just 3 or must I use all 4, I want to be able to take the sump off of my Zetec and to do that I have to use the 2 threaded holes at the top of the bell housing then the 2 at the side but they look like they will all be quite close together and not sure if it will fit??

A lot of questions for what should be a simple procedure I know, but I don't want to come back to my garage with my engine lying on the floor!!

3 may be fine, depends which 3 and how well/wide the load is spread.

I just measured up and bought some high tensile bolts from the local fastener suppliers. Allen key heads and 17mm nuts.
