Smile Service History

Does it matter if you have it or not? And does it really effect the value of a car....S2 Escort Rst?

yes, for something like an RS Turbo, i wouldn't expect a stamped up book from the dealer, but I would like to see a good few years of reciepts for oil, filters etc if the owners asking a decent amount for the car

so it does have a service history just not a dealer or garage service history.

I bought a car recently that has a fully stamped book
But it doesn't have any paperwork, reciepts, bills...

I wasn't very happy with this as I've got no paperwork to show what's been done and when.
Just a service book saying, inspection 1, 2, oil change....

I rang the phone number of the garage in the book to ask about the car and it turned out it was a company car and the guy didn't keep the paperwork, it went to the office and the car had loads of stuff done.

So a stamped book and/reciepts don't mean everything.

I'd rather see invoices than stamps in a book as they could mean anything!
When I bought the Mondeo I had a list from LeasePlan telling me what was done, where it was done, when it was done and how much it cost.

The car doesn't have all it's stamps any more as I usually service it myself but I've stapled all the receipts together from services with a note on the front saying what was done and when it was done.

My motor is serviced regularly (I supply parts), book gets stamped and that's it. Couldn't be arsed keeping all old bills and shit.

(I did keep the receipts for duel mass flywheel and clutch kit when that was done tho)

Well £15 later and the car had full service history, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DIY-RUBBER...item3389a42325

But you can phone up whoever has done the receipt and ensure it's genuine.

Yes you can do this with a stamp but you still don't have exactly what was done in writing.

So you ring the number on every receipt to verify before you buy a car?? I think not

I depends on the car, a newish motor you are looking for dealer stamps that you can then call up said dealer and confirm the work and being dealer serviced, if something major goes wrong before time, you have more chance of it being fixed under good will. It also suggests that the car has been properly maintained with the correct items and money has not been skimped on it.

Where as an old RS's to me, it is all about bills/mot's/tax discs/services books/bill of sale as we are more interested in its history and story than a modern car.

I don't expect to see a Ford service book but I do expect to see a folder full of paperwork stretching back over the years.

Most look at a service history as receipts for oil filters oil spark plugs and things like that at set dates I don't have any of that
