Default Buying a plate for somebody else?

Thinking of buying a plate for my mrs for her birthday. Anybody done this? I was hoping to get the plate purchased from the DVLA and get the plate made so I can present them to her on her birthday and just take her to the DVLA office to swap them over.

Bit unsure as to how easy it will be to do?

you can get plates made easy enough and buy it on retention, but not as a surprise ready to fit with plates ready to roll as legal information needs to be completed first by the owner of the vehicle its going onto, then they issue changed V5/Tax disc Mot etc

My mrs done it for me, I think it works that she "owns" the plate, but it's registered to my car, also you can't go and get the car registered same day anymore it's all through the post but mine came back in under a week

They send you a new tax disc you don't have to send that just the v5 it's easy costs 80 quid no reason you can't surprise her just send off her v5

It's really easy to do. Once they've sent you the retention, you send the filled out retention to assign the mark, V5, Mot if needed off to DVLA and then a while after you'll receive the new mot, tax disc with the new V5 to follow.

It can take a few weeks to do get it all done so watch your timing if you need to get it done by a certain date.

Didn't realise the offices had all been closed.

Sounds ok to do, found one I think she'll like so will aim to buy the plate and use the v70 (iirc) when it appears to make the plates. She'll have to post the forms on her birthday saddle to swap it.

Pity, was hoping I could take her to the office on her birthday so she could put it on that day :-(

Get the plates off ebay, you don't need any paperwork for them, just tell them what you require.

At least then she has something for her birthday, instead of an envelope with a load of paperwork in it lol.
