Done a few now best tip is if you can remove the glass then do so and fit the film in a bath tub to stop any dust, also take your time there's no rush,

It's not that expensive now days to get done by a shop

I did my mk2 xr2 and mk6 escort and a 106 for my mate and as said windows out and do it in the bathroom as it's the room with the least dust and that's what causes the the majority of bubbles. Just take your time and make sure the film has totally cured before trying to put the windows back in. Heat gun on low setting or a hair dryer helps speed up the time

I got banned from driving for 28 days back in 2000, so i had a bit of time on my hands and tinted the windows on my old mk4 escort 5 door. Took all glass out and as said done it in the bath lol.

Done a pretty good job for a first effort. Used limo black and done the front windows too. Couldn't see fuck all at night tho!

Nah piss easy.whether it's 3 or 5 door. 3 door rear windows just push out from inside rubbers aswell, start at top corner nearest the front and start pushing the rubber out over the lip towards the rear of the car then keep going down to the bottom. Go out side the car and the window will pull out, front door card off and you will see how it comes out,5door rear doors much the same as front except the post for the 1\4 glass is held at the top with a Phillips screw iirc

Oh and tailgate window is just same push out rubber but a wee bit trickier but it's simples

I seen a car in a car park, my son commented that his tints looked like he had done it with a bin bag and prit stick.
I don't think it was professionally done!

Yep it stops all the dust getting in the film (which will make it look shit) the n use a hairdryer and a squeeze to smooth it out

Soapy water then squeegee out, the worst to do are the rear heated screens, done many cars in the past, not done any for a while now, but think the trucks gonna get done. I bought a big roll of the professional, tint years ago, slightly thicker than the halfords stuff

side windows were always easy to do but rear screens that often curve both ways like a bowl were always awkward to get right.
its a shame they banned limo black on drivers and passenger front sides....I used to love to love playing Russian roulette with on coming traffic and cyclists when pulling out of side streets.

I used to work at a Halfords type car shop, always advised people to use plenty of soapy water...
Once had a bloke come back, saying it looked shit. Went our to look at it on the car and there were loads of white dots under the film. Turned out he'd used soap powder!?? Nob.

It's not hard as long as the window isn't massively curved in both directions.

As above, take them out.

I've done probably 10 cars now, not taken a window out yet!!

You really need to shape the film to the curve of the glass with a heat gun first on the outside, then when you fit it to the inside, it'll fit perfectly with no creases.

To be honest it is not easy, but watch some videos on youtube first, buy some QUALITY film that will shrink properly (I use Suntek), and have plenty of patience, buy plenty of film and don't expect to get it right first time!

Out of interest, anyone know how much is the going rate to tint a car?
Just thinking, for a first timer, that once you've bought plenty of film incase of fuck ups, would it not be cost effective to just get a pro job!?

Exactly what he said .wet the outside of the widow place the film on with tear of part faceing you then shape with a heat gun and squige just as you would when fitting .
Another thing I always do is run a line of clear nail varnish around the edge of the windows that go up and down to save it getting torn and coming away when opening and shutting them

Its not too bad to do, prepping is the key, and use a decent quality film, NOT a cheapo ebay film (ive used Suntek and 3M in the past). I wouldnt bother removing the windows as you will need to somehow hold the glass in place if not in the car (more tricky to do it laying down - more dirt with get under).

I learnt how to do it from youtube videos along with previous wrap experience but anyone can do it really...
