Default Stupid parts prices?

Following on from the Stupid car designs thread, what Stupid car parts prices do you know of?

Thread on another forum where a BMW 'specialist' has cocked up timing up an E36 M3 Evo, it's gone elsewhere to be sorted and needs 12 valves replacing....

VALVES ARE ....£96 EACH from BMW.

/////M tax!!

Thing that really boils my piss is that we do work for some OEM companies and the cost price of some stuff compared to what you would buy it at is nothing short of absolute criminality! If you bought a part for £400, you can bet the unit price they are manufactured for is about a quarter of that.

If manufacturers charged reasonable garage rates and prices for their parts, every car on the planet would have no corners cut on getting it fixed, it wouldnt neglected and there would be no such thing as back street garages!

That's the idea though,,, ford ain't making money from old cars,,, they make money from new cars so they put the prices up of old cars is people think "I may as well buy a new car"

Tbh new cars are cheeper to run,,,my fiesta costs 109 quid a month,,, nothing else but petrol and insurance plus I no longer look like a tramp with a old car too

Warranty jobs I expect?

This one was a late 60ish reg, oil pump failed (as in the drive lay in the bottom of the sump) , snapped the oil pump drive guide pin off in the block, turbo seized, cams scored.

Wouldn't run when new engine and turbo fitted, DPF was blocked solid with the turbo debris.

I deal in factory armoured vehicles so when I ring up for a price on a part I can guarantee the part price has been tripled and then a zero added on the end. One customer purchased a car and had some parts sent over with it which consisted of: 2 x Complete Wheels & Tyres, 2 x Tyres (+fitting kits), Shocks all round and a service kit (filters and plugs). The price came to £14k!!! + VAT

Another customer had the bearings seize in his alternator on a car he purchased a wheel ago so I priced a new one up for him... £8363 (again + VAT), handily they give me a bit of discount which brought the price down to £6,500 I sent him some new bearings in the end

My local ford dealer wanted £17 per litre of oil for my RS, and that was plus vat
But I found it way cheaper else where.
