Default 97 Escort van brakes binding

Just got back from work and noticed my brake must have been binding on the nsf.
The wheel feels really really hot, it feels like it wont roll when in traffic and the performance is dire.
Is there a quick fix to free it off, or is it worth getting hold of some GTi (or similar) hubs with brakes, shocks etc?

Not really handy with the spanners myself so a bit in the dark as to what fits what lol

It could well be mate, I just thought i'd ask to see if there was a common thing at fault with these vans before I have a look underneath tomorrow...

Mate the rubber pipe that goes to the caliper has a valve that when the pipe deteriorates dont allow the fluid to return hence the binding caliper, common problem, worth a check

Also to check wheel bearing remove wheel jack car up remove caliper and spin wheel shake and move wheel see if you have play or if stiff if either of these then wheel bearing needs replacing

No prob mate, to check that pipe just jack the van up and spin the wheel and see if it feels like the brake is still on, if it does just undo it from the caliper and see if it frees, you will loose a little bit of brake fluid though

Make sure the clamp holding the rubber hose to the wing isnt pinching the hose.

Had this on mine i stripped the caliper etc and noticed clip was too tight, fluid could go down but not up holding the caliper on

It seems to be fixed. Wheel off, undo brake hose from caliper, turn wheel, free off hose bracket, bang the caliper a few times with a trusty hammer, then refit wheel.

Jobs a gooden!

Probably replace the brakes and suspension eventually anyways but happy days.

Default Ford escort van brakes jamming binding on intermittently

MY VAN IS THE SAME

Hi, I have an escort van 1996 and the brakes are jamming on intermittently, i need help.
Ive replaced both front callipers, fitted new pads, lubed up the sliders etc, also fitted new rear drums and shoes and it still jams on intermittently. New servo i am sure was fitted before i bought it,i need help could it be the flexi pipes?.
This is whats happening front right brake jams on and so does rear left, whcih is weird at the same time, sometimes will free off whilst driving, other times pumoing the brake pedal with quick jabs also does it.
What definetely frees it off,is if i take a n 11mm socket to the front right bleed nipple and slacken it a alittle then retighten, this always releases it.
Any help anyone, this is driving me crazy, hot smoking wheels when pulled up.
Could the load sensor valv thing underneath the van cause these symptoms, mine just looks like a piec of metal rattling about inside a coiled loose spring.

this is a old thread but yes I would change the flexi pipes as very common for causing this
