Does anybody remember Slater motorsport ?
Years ago when i had my 1st cossie back in 1995 i remember on the way to Ford fair at Stanford hall ( i think ) a red S2 RS turbo with slater motorsport decals on it leaving me for dead , my cossie was 313 bhp on 803's, 3 bar etc, couldn't believe the S2 was so fast back then.
I think Slater motorsport was a guy called Matt slater from around Dartford or London area ? Is that right ?
Anybody remember them as i'm just curious.

You are right ! Matt Slater used to be a club racer and started his own business modifying cars around the Brands Hatch / Dartford area, i used to talk to him all the time but haven;t for a while now , a year or more .

Matt and his father owned Dartford tyres and Matt did indeed race the Datapost RST in the Vecta fast ford series along with the likes of Heath Anscombe, Ricky Hutchins, Darren Dowling,Aaron Tucker (HT Racing),Curley Baines and Adrian Law, Adrian's car (RST B880 EPU)was I think the sister car to Matts and was originally in Bristol St Motors livery. I was told about this post and had to join this forum in order to reply.
The red S2 RST with Slater Motorsport decals was probably my car. I used to try and race everyone back then, and cossies were the ultimate target!
I bought the car in standard form from a guy that used to work for Ford and had owned it from new. Matt Slater did all the work on the car, and it was running 23psi.

That's cool, wonder where the s2 is now? How much power would that equate to on an rs turbo?

Thank you both. I sold the car to one of my mates called Rob. He didn't have it long before he blew the engine up. He had another one of my mates called Roy rebuild the engine, but unfortunately he listened to awful advice from Turbo-Technics and put the wrong turbo on it. After that it just wasn't anywhere near as fast. Rob ended up selling the car to Roy who had rebuilt the engine for him. Roy then sold it to a 17 year old kid who crashed it and wrote it off. So unfortunately the car no longer exists.
I owned it for 3 years. After I had all the work done to the engine, it was set up on a rolling road running just 14psi. Once it was run in the boost was upped to 23psi but we never did another power run on the rolling road so I never knew exactly how much power it was running. It was estimated to be somewhere between 230-250 bhp.
A few years later I bought another S2 RST. This time it was a grey example. I ended up spending an absolute fortune on it with a 2.1ltr ZVH conversion. That car is still in existence. The current owner tracked me down to ask about its history. It's been in storage for some time now in his garage but apparently it's still running strong.

My red one used to keep up with a few cossies running green injectors. My grey one was never really working long enough to find out. The damn thing was always off the road with various issues!

I really didn't know anything about cars back then, and I'm still not much better now. It was 20 years ago so please excuse any mistakes, and please don't rush to tell me that I'm full of crap or my modifications wouldn't have made that much power. From what I remember, my red S2 RST had the following spec:
Modified head.
Cam (I had both a Piper and a Kent Cam. I think my last one was a PB1? Paul Bailey spec)
Uprated intercooler
Hybrid turbo (Cosworth housing)
-32 Actuator?
Fifth injector?
Low compression engine with Acrylite pistons?
Power Engineering exhaust
K&N cone filter
Modified Fuel Metering thingy
That's all I can remember for now.

Yes, it's one of the last supercharged models. It handles well on a perfect road surface. The MINI is an incredibly well balanced car. But mine has Bilstein B14 coilovers fitted. And I don't rate them at all. The car is just too stiff and bouncy now. At high speed it can get quite scary if I hit a bump.
