Default track or bufty ,whats your thoughts?

i have always been into my rs,s for 25 years plus ,but never had a track car .i am really getting a itch to build something track base only .

although i do love shows and having the cars minty mint ,im not one for entering concours ,but im now starting to get a tad bored with it all.

i have almost everything to build a 3dr,saff ,or series one including cages etc .

anyone feeling the same ?

I much prefer that side of the cars. It's hard work to keep a car concours and it's really not my thing. Don't get me wrong i appreciate the work that people put in and love to see the cars but for me i'd rather the car was used and keeping cars mint in that case can be hard.

My car for example used to be mint, but now it's a little bit rough around the edges, but it's well built and takes abuse without me worrying about marking it.

lets just say the previous guy put anti lag and launch control on it and prob spent all the previous night with a box of tissues and the evo dry humping it and then got fed up with it,

new engine arriving in the morning but is a spare engine until pj builds something proper, if i get a trackday or two and a few miles around home in this spare engine then ill be happy enough

wont cage it yet but will be deffo changing the brakes, suspension and tyres before the next track day

If you can then get a dedicated car for both.

I get a bit obsessive and now have a car for daily use, one for track days, one for hillclimbs and sprints, one for daily use in winter, one for show, one that's a mixture of show and track, one that's a mixture of show and road, one that's a mixture of track and road, a van, a car transporter and am currently on the lookout for a motor home and then after that there will be something else.....

It depends on your personal preference, but if you take a car out on track and it gets even a light bit of damage, you're either the type who gets totally gutted or the type who doesn't care. But if you have a car that's for show plus road and fun use on nice days and a car for ragging and taking on the track regularly, you're getting the best of both worlds really.

You are sort of limited in Ireland for track days. You have the choice of Mondello park or Kirkistown really. Would you not be better building a car for the Alltrak events? They are cheaper than track days and you get to compete. My mate does it in a old group N Impreza and he loves it. Entry fee's are only 50 quid and there is normally an event every two weeks though out the year.

oh god yeah fullly forged, will leave it alone around 400 brake or there abouts

dont worry horse, that escort will be out sooner than we think, pj currently getting the shafts sorted, will be bringing back the rear axle etc as soon as, a day will fit it all up on the lift at home, also the focus will be ready by august i reckon, some rwd fun there then as well, so get ur ass into gear and put that 3 door into action for some ford dominance

Report of one of the events. http://www.reallymeansounds.com/report.php?event=673
As you can see its a really mixed bag of cars. The regs are simple, you must have a cage, bucket seats and harnesses as well as a cut of switch and overalls for yourself and co drivers (co driver not really necessarily a lot of guys use single seaters) They are held in Moneyglass in toombridge, Aghadowey and some go kart place in Co. Louth

I would never base a track car on a RS shell unless you really wanted to track an Escos.

The clerk of the course told me it was a barn find, its absolutely mint. He doesn't even know what year it is lol It surprising how clean and reliable it is as all it does is get hounded around the track. Moondust silver 4x4 are quite rare too.

Prime example below of what's the best of both worlds, concours and ragged on track. I'd stick with that idea, you'll be happy all round then
