Got to get the cambelt and water pump done on my octavia vrs as its hit 80k, i normally do all my cambelt changes myself on k series, cossys, zetecs etc and audi a3 1.8 na (while i had the engine out) but everyone i speak to say these are a bit of pain to do due to the engine mount not coming out? just wondered if there that bad to do,or just to pay the £100 quid my mates garage charge for the labour? cheers matt

done a few of these when i worked at the skoda dealer and as you said the mount is a pain to get out, i eventually just loosened the mount with engine supported and work the belt round it, think there is a tool for the tensioner but sure water pump pliers do the job if you got an extra pair of hands, not too bad a job really

Pretty straight forward, except for the mounting. You can fish the belt around the mounting when it's loose, and when the belt is fitted, the fuck'n mounting falls out on the ground. If this happens, make sure the bolts are on the mounting before you try and fit the mounting, as you cannot get some of the bolts in, if the mounting is in place, no room against the chassis rail. If 1 bolt is missing, they can and do break.
