Discrimination whats best?

In work yesterday the area manager came in and spoke to the owner (my boss) As they were in ear shot the owner was asked "hows the shop going" heard my boss pipe up "Employee's like him need a uniform" then the Area Manger pipes up "Bring back metric eh" Both laughed. To be honest if it were a joke between us 3 i'd of laughed but as they thought i never heard it made me fuckin pissed off. Now I intend to place a complaint in, whats the best way? The job is a job. Only reason i took it is because of redundancy. Since i've been there i've helped with CCTV, Shelves, Refridgration work and Lock Work. Helped him out and he repays me by mentioning size while in ear shot????

Sorry basicaly my size, seems he wants us to wear the same. Now I have no problem in that, just the way the area manager said "Bring Back Metric eh" as in an insult to my size.

I don't think that telling management what you've just told us will result in sympathy. They'll just be as puzzled as us.

If they do find it as insulting as you have what outcome do you expect? For your boss to get a bollocking - which will make him hate you and give you shit tasks?

Whatever the insult is supposed to be here, you should either have piped up there and then, either seriously or by joining in the joke.

Personally, I think you are being too sensitive for your own good, and dwelling on it now or trying to make a fuss seems pretty pointless to me, especially if it is the owner and another senior exec you are moaning about - let's face it, the owner isn't about to sack himself for being insensitive, is he?

Is the firm a franchise? If so, the area manager could get into some bother, but your owner boss would only likely be given some sensitivity pointers.

You, on the other hand, will just mark yourself out and - if you think you are miserable now, I'm sure they can make things a lot worse without trying too hard.

It is a Franchise, my boss owns the garage/site. Just the ear shot saying pissed me off to the point of embarresment. Always repectful of bosses an all that.

i do have to admit wirraphil you have to man up a bit they hardly ripped into you did they and if you start making problems with people then i can assure you you'll just make things 100 times worse, it's exactly what everyone will and have said.

the comment warren just made about kiddie fiddlin, i get it at work and i work at a school atm, it's just a bit of banter but fuck me they pushed the boundry's with it , i'm also 6'5" so get the piss taken out of me for that too but again it's all banter i'm called stretch at work and tbh i really like that fact cos everyone knows who i am and people find it easy to approach me.

i work as an electritian so it's on site and banter is a part of the job role in all honesty, if you feel like they have given you some sort of hard time come to site and see what a real hard time can be.

i think one thing you'v gotta learn is not take things to heart as easily, it'll just bite you in the arse eventually, just take it as banter like i do, you obviously no your a bit on the large size, someone pointing that out isn't giong to kill you is it and if your ashamed of the fact then do something about it, i'm guessing your weight isn't an illness so can be sorted out.

i'm a self confessed chav though warren and was most of the above but i wasn't an arsehole , i think thats where the differences are, and also respect for yourself and others, i can see why people assosiat chavs as trouble makers and such like cos "most" of them are but i don't think it's cos they are a chav, you'll get goths, emo's and trendy's that can also be arseholes with no respect to themselves or other people.
