Default Insaurance Inspection

I got driven into the back of my Fiesta the other week whilst in traffic and the other parties insaurance are sending a Engineering inspector out on Monday.

The only thing I am unsure about are the "undeclared" Si alloys (that I bought the car with). I recently painted them black and they have brand new, £200 worth of Avon ZV3s on them. Will they try to wiggle out of paying me out (the repair of the damage will exceed the value of the car about 3 times) as it will be "wrote off"? It was NOT my fault, and the other side have supposedly said they were responsible.

Thanks in advance.

i wouldn't worry the other party normally asses the damage and make an offer, well thats what happened to me anyway and i had other mods on the vehicle but wasn't bothered.

go the scrappers and get yourself a set of steelies, thats what i did i even put escort estate front shocks and fiesta rear shocks on mine cos it had been lowered, i can't see the problem in it but i was just playing safe, the handling in my escort became "interesting" to say the least

If its the other parties insurance company that are sending out the assessors , then they wont know what your policy is or any mods , I would not bother too much about it but if your unsure then do as the other says and put the right wheels on it ,

I get the feeling that they are coming out to have a look at condition ect in view of making an offer

usually they take the car away, then inspect it, as it is the other party, your insurance wont kick up a fuss and it should be sound.

You may get left with the car to dispose of as it would be more to recover it and store it than the salvage value. In this car, you may get paid out and still keep the car.

I had this with my sisters motor a few years back, she called the insurance after she got paid out and said can i still insure they car, and they said yes.

What would you lot advise me to do?

Trying to source 4 x 13" - 15" steelies with legal tyres, by Monday may be a stuggle.

They don't take the car away, they DO know precisely what your information is on your policy inc any mods, and all full terms and conditions, as does any insurer who looks it up, they have to have a legitimate reason to look it up though.
If they saw you had a vette V8 engine, they are not allowed to tell your insurer.
The mods do nothing to negate thier obligation to cover the damage caused by thier insured person, they sometimes write anything they consider as "added" ie undeclared mods on the inspection report, but just that day you had to borrow some tyres from a mate as yours were slashed!
If they write it off, and the car is worth repairing/keeping for bits then base your acceptance of the offer subject to you keeping the salvage.
Remember the car is YOURS, no one can force you to accept a offer, so tell your insurer/other insurer that is is subject to salvage retention, they will be only too happy, as it saves them money disposing of it.

So I should keep the wheels on and "blag" if they ask? Won't they ask to see the other wheels?

As for the car, I WANT to keep the wheels because of the tyres (to sell or for my next car) and there is bumpers, interior and some other little parts I could sell. It isn't repairable in the sense of what the car is worth. The boot floor got crumpled and the front bonnet beam is bent and the welds came loose on the sides. I've been told by two people it needs jigging which is about £800. Then it needs bumpers painting and a bonnet then that painting and a headlight.

mate for piece of mind get to the scrappers for the wheels i think i paid something silly for them, mine didn't have legal tires but i wouldn't advise it to someone else, and the scrappers will have an abundance of ford steels i'll promise you, and when or if the write the car off you can buy it back off them usually pretty cheap strip it for parts and weigh in the shell it's what i did to my mk5 escort and made a good couple of quid in the process too
