Default problem with bmw e39, can anybody help?

my mates got a bmw 5 series (e39 M5). for some reason the rear passenger door wont open from the inside or outside, both handles seem to be broken,

anybody had one with a similar problem,any ideas how to get the door open?

thanks in advance for any help

Common fault I'm afraid mate

Only way to sort it is to remove the rear seat bench and the the doorcard (only a couple of screws and loads of clips for the card so can be done with the door shut) and then re-attatch the bowden cable/bar (can't remember which) that goes from the handles to the locking mechanism.

Loads of people on the E39 forum have had this problem in the past

there are a number of faults that can cause this to happen, as above you need to remove the doorcard from inside the car ,then manually open the door by operating the latch, then you can investigate the actual fault with the door open.

i have a copy of the BMW TIS and the electronic parts catalogue if you need them m8, where abouts in Ayrshire are you from anyway?
