Its a long story tbh, my other half didn't have the nicest of experiences working for them, hence why she's not there now lol.

I dont know a lot about them, apart from they are very expensive.

They do some nice cars although the guy who did the conversions and really knew his stuff has recently left to run his own place which i dont think they were expecting, lol

I understand that when it comes to our cars, that its each to their own but a lot of these cars look like the owners spunked all their money on spangly Carlos Fandango wheels that are way too wide for the cars and then cant afford to buy the correct size tyres so fit the ones from their standard bisciut sized wheels!!!

They surely cant be safe to drive like that and make the car drive like a total bag of shit.

I know people want different things from their cars but i'd rather walk than get in some of the cars shown on this thread!!

Just flicked through this whole thread, and there is some pretty idiotic comments from both sides of the arguement.
I always have, and always will love fords, but i also think that VW's are cool, i am even registered on clubpolo as i wanted a gt breadvan for ages, even bought my ex's mk2 golf off there.
I am a mountain biker/bmxer and like metal/emo/grunge music, but i cant see how the type if music you listen too decides what car you drive?
I drive a saff cossie because i have always wanted one, and love the way it goes/looks.
I think some of the VW trends are cool too, i like a little bit of stretch, but not loads, alot just looks daft, i even run a tiny amount on the cossie, camber looks fooking bonk when its done for show, not go.
But the VAG scene does have some mighty quick cars that would bash alot of quick cossies around a track.
But we all love our cars, whether its for looks or performance, i dont think there's any need to bitch about each other.

ffs is it so hard to understand,

fords look nice as racers or quick road cars, a race inspired jetta for example looks shit at the side of a saph
but a slammed mk5 fiesta looks wank on wide steels and a bit of smoothing, where as a polo looks awsome
an old vw lifed on minilights flying through the air with huge stickers looks gay but a mk2 escort would look mint
a black bora with tape over the lights and a petrol companys name on the side with 5 spoke wheels would look crap, but a 3 door looks mint

just accept the scenes are different and respect the effort people put in.

Chill out yo

I respect some of the craftsmanship in those cars. The metal arches and things are very well made, granted, but most of them still look crap, as the wheels are either too small, or the tyres don't fit, or the modifications don't suit the shape and era of the car. It's about making modifications that compliment the car, in the same way that a Saxo/Corsa looks wank with a massive Veilside-style kit on it, whereas Supra's and things have a much better chance of pulling it off. Most of these end up looking silly because the proportions are all wrong, or the wheel sizes are way off what looks right with the shape/size of the car.

I also don't see the point in taking a car, whatever it might be, and making it worse than it was to start with. At the end of the day, a car is for driving. It's either a means of transporting people or stuff around, or for going as quickly as possible. Fitting stupidly stretched tyres, incorrectly sized wheels, stupidly low ride heights etc etc all make the car worse to drive/less stable/less safe, which is kind of defeating the object of the thing in the first place...

But you're right, it is a pointless arguement, as they're all as set in their ways as we are

That's a tad harsh fella. "pic whoring" is a common phrase on all the forums I use (both car, photography and Tortoise ones!). I'm not some spotty teenage scenester out to impress anyone, I'm a mid 30's bloke who's massivley into motorsport and trackdays who happens to like VW's. All my posts in this thread have been about how there is a large chunk of us in the "scene" that share your love of motorsport mods and using our cars for finding the limits on race tracks. I myself am not a huge fan of the Euro look, I like some of the cars but many leave me cold as it's not my cup of tea.

I did sign up to join in this discussion but also because Mrs Horney drives a Fiesta (Boring 1.3 Endura E engined thing, I wish it was something exciting like an RST) but thought it might also be a good place to find out some info on tinkering with it to make it a bit more interesting to drive.

Luckily for you I'm a laid back kinda guy and will except your ranting insults as a misunderstanding.

Nick

Nice to see the VW boys defending their side, and our fame around other forums. Can't see me selling my Ford for a VW any time soon though, sorry.

I think when it comes to making great cars over the years, Ford shit all over VW, sorry guys.

Legendry cars that VW have made....erm.....Golf GTI.......Corrado VR6 is very borderline.......Beetle and Camper would be in I spose, despite their massive levels of shitness. What else have you got?

Ford legends......GT40, every sporting MK1 Escort, every sporting MK2 Escort, the RS Turbo, Sierra Cosworth, Sierra RS500, Escort Cosworth, Lotus Cortina, GT, RS200, Model T, Mustang, it just goes on and on...

They're two very different scenes, possibly with different focuses. Each have produced some great modified cars and some great standard cars. Just a shame that many VWs end up in the hands of retards who think camber and excessive tyre stretch is a cool way to go. And sadly for you guys, they represent a massive part of the VW scene to outsiders, as they tend to be the cars featured in magazines and plastered over the internet. Maybe you need to change that.

But regardless, we're still better
That fails on many levels,tbh.

You say fast MK1 Escorts, then say fast MK2 Escorts. Yep,because they had to be fast to be anything special, which is reflected in the rest of your Ford list. Slow Fords just have nothing going for them. A neighbour has a 53 plate mexican air cooled Beetle because there's still a market for them despite the refusal of the european authorities to allow it.
But you only mention the Beetle once. It was sold for over 50 years! And it didnt have to be fast to be loved by its literally millions of buyers. Put a brand new Sierra 1.6 up today and see the thousands queing to run it standard..

Same with the camper, which was doing well long before the Ford Popular/Prefect put the Escort conception in Fords nutsack, and still made in bay window form this millenium (not officially sold in the UK since the '80s).

But you stretch it out further. You can write every different type of Sierra Cosworth you can think of,and only one Golf GTi. But that doesn't shift the fact that the Golf GTi came out before any Sierra and is still on sale long after Generations of dull Mondeos failed to be anything more important than taxis. There's probably a V6 in there nobody knows about.

We dont have to change the scene for us,or wouldn't have to but for labelling by some narrow minded people who wanna label me because i drive a car with a VW badge. We're not the scene. Im not in the Nokia scene just because i have an N86 but it seems categorisation is everything these days.

Speed,it seems, certainly is. If i didn't know better,id still be of the view that Ford enthusiasts are just yobs.

Unfortunately it seems that a lot of people of people on this forum's maturity can be summed up by the tags at the bottom of the page, "vw gays in every hole", I mean...seriously, thinking you guys probably have a handful of GCSEs between you.

I always accepted the phrase 'horses for courses' as people like different things. Some people like going fast whilst others like looking good, some like to slide round corners, others to speed along straights; however apart from a few open minded folk on here others don't seem to accept this.

I haven't come on here to slag off Fords, nor have any of the others, most of us like them, and the response from us has been quite limited and in my opinion non-offensive considering this is not only on club-polo but edition38 as well, one of the UK's largest 'dubbing' forums. Yet we have been called Hitler loving, emo, self harming, 'spazoids', it's pathetic, reminds me of secondary school. Now I am going to post up some more 'shit' cars for your viewing pleasure, or WHORE them out as others would say, enjoy passionford, enjoy.

Oh look, lots of people being different and individual by all lowering their cars too far and fitting tyres that are too small, how imaginative

Try and pick up a type 49 shell for under £7000 grand then tell us how precious your beetles are.
So the beetle has been around for yonks. Still the ford fiesta has out sold the beetle so what does that say?
