Easy enough to do, the dayco kits are very good vfm, and decent quality.
Make sure you get a kit with everything needed and not just the belt though.
Don't overtighten when doing things up as these do seem to strip threads easy, unless I was just unlucky.

How much mechanic experience do you have mate? I don't want to teach you to suck eggs kind of thing.

They'er quite simple though tbh, alternator, engine mount and bracket off, 10mm blanking bolt is on the belt end of the engine, at the back near the driveshaft support bearing. Floating crank so it's essential you lock the crank off, and just turn the engine over plenty of times and check the timing before you put it back together.

Any questions just ask mate.

Crank pulley bolt can be extremely tight, you will struggle unless you have Air tools and a decent compresser.

With any cambelt, mark up manufacturers marks, and make up your own marks, check check and check again.

NB, replace the Tensioner also, as its these that tend to fail, not the belt

you have to remove the cam cover and lock the cams off. My wifes fiestas t belt needs doing. I would like to have a go myself but i dont like doing t belts.

How do you fit the new belt?

Cut that and cable tie it back together?

miy '96 needs doing as well as it's now up to 130,000 miles, but for the cost of parts and the time and hassle it's not worth it. i only paid Ł90 for the car 5 years ago thrash it 'til it dies is my motto, although i did stop this morning when i could smell oil and lifted the bonnet to find i had left the 710 cap off after topping it up on sunday

you need a flat bar to lock the cams off and a peg to lock the crank. you need to make sure that the bolts are very very tight as the crank and cams have no keyway and just spin if not tightened up ive seen loads of people bend all the valves in the head..

thats my theory, i'd rather change an engine than a cambelt so let it go

easy enough to do if you have enough experience like mentioned above make sure you lock the crank and beware when locked it only stops it turning clockwise but will turn anti clockwise so check check and check again, and if you do cock the timing up dont try to set it to top dead centre on no1 as these time up quite a few degrees before tdc, however if you do time them at tdc they will still run just wont tick over!!!!

when i had my cossie they were changed every couple of thousand miles
even cam chains, if they are easy enough to do i'd rather thange them after 100k or so rather than lob in a new engine
