i think the camera flash is causing it to look a bit different, as visually looking they looked the same, but it was getting dark!

Getting the head checked, whats that involve then and is it a case of any garage can do it?

was it missing or firing on all 4? did you notice water coming out the exhaust i had a hole behind a valve on my saph and as i was putting water in it was comming out the exhaust! as soon as the water dropped it run on all 4 but didn't show signs of steam cleaning due to the amount of water leaking in to the bore!!!!

cylinders dont look bad...gasket waterways are fooked. i'd pull water pump off it to check while its in bits ..might be corroded and fins broke off. go get head pressure tested while its off.check rad for blockage and backflush it with a hosepipe.
then build it back up and see how it goes. if it still does it blocks prob cracked and you will be fitting a new engine as its not worth the grief..a few on ebay ATM

I think the water pump was ok as I took the return pipe of the tank and water came out whilst the engine was running

ask the oily bits are currently soaking in a cleaning tank at work will get them out in abit
